BERLIN—Russians hoping to flee President Vladimir Putin’s mass mobilization of civilians are facing a cold shoulder from the country’s European Union neighbors, who say they won’t roll out the welcome mat. Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, which all share land borders with Russia, have swiftly and collectively ruled out expanding their asylum categories to allow Russians fleeing mobilization to enter their territory. Officials from Poland and the Baltic states said in interviews they wouldn’t compromise their internal security by extending that welcome to the vast number of Russians who could potentially qualify. Those governments also hold little sympathy for Russian citizens who can’t demonstrate a longstanding opposition to their country’s incursions into Georgia, Crimea and other military interventions.
Convicted NXIVM cult leader Keith Raniere was attacked by a fellow inmate and sex offender before being wrongly punished for the incident, his attorneys said in a lawsuit. Raniere has limited knowledge of the assault.”Raniere was “given a disciplinary ticket for ‘fighting’ ” and placed in the prison’s Special Housing Unit. Withers, the alleged attacker, is serving 18 years for his convictions linked to a sex trafficking operation. “The BOP is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all inmates in our population, our staff, and the public. Raniere was sentenced to 120 years in prison following his 2019 conviction on federal sex trafficking, racketeering and possession of child pornography charges.
George Haj of the bank employees syndicate said the holdups were misguiding anger that should be directed at the Lebanese state, which was most to blame for the crisis, and noted some 6,000 bank employees had lost their jobs since it began. Authorities have condemned the holdups and say they are preparing a security plan for banks. "They are all in cahoots to steal from us and leave us to go hungry and die slowly," she said. To aid her escape, Hafiz posted on Facebook that she was already at the airport and on her way to Istanbul. Abdallah Al-Saii, an acquaintance of Hafiz who held up a bank in January to get some $50,000 of his own savings, said more hold-ups were coming.
