And yet, every day, people across America hire a real estate agent to help them sell a home. While state governments license real estate agents, NAR has an extensive code of ethics it expects members to adhere to. NAR and the brokerages have vowed to appeal the verdict, which means real estate commissions aren’t going anywhere immediately. Last month Redfin, an internet real estate company, left the association. The longer-term impact of the verdict may be that the pairing of buyer’s agent commission and seller’s agent commission will eventually be separated.

Instead, he emphasizes what might be called the power law of wildfire spread. Most fires are not hard to put out if you want to extinguish them and don’t spread very fast if you don’t. Globally, the fire story is less exponential, with declines in burned area in sub-Saharan Africa mostly offsetting rapid fire growth in the major midlatitude hot spots, with the global trend in fire emissions, as a result, mostly flat. Washington and Venezuela's political opposition wanted Citgo to anchor the country's economic future under a democratically elected government. TORONTO, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Canada's annual inflation rate edged down to 3.8% in September on broad-based price reductions for some travel-related services, durable goods and groceries, Statistics Canada said on Tuesday. This beat analysts' expectations for annual inflation to remain at 4.0%. "It's pretty clear that (the central bank) won't be raising rates in my opinion in October. I think if we had gotten another inflation print like August in September - that was the big risk to have another hike. REUTERS/Carlos Osorio/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOTTAWA, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Canada's annual inflation rate unexpectedly slowed to 3.8% in September and underlying core measures also eased, data showed on Tuesday, prompting markets and analysts to trim bets for another interest rate hike next week. Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast inflation to hold steady at the 4.0% rate recorded in August. Two of the Bank of Canada's (BoC's) three core measures of underlying inflation also decelerated. Money markets trimmed bets for a rate hike next week after the data. "There's no need for further rate hikes in Canada," Reitzes said.

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) said the number, range, and seriousness of the deficiencies in the audits of Carillion were exceptional, resulting in the watchdog's highest ever fine. On occasions, KPMG audit partner Peter Meehan told his team to record his review of working papers without having done a review, the FRC said. Meehan, no longer with KPMG, was fined 350,000 pounds after a discount to reflect his cooperation and admission of failures. It would have been 30 million pounds, but was discounted due to admissions and co-operation by the auditor. KPMG was fined 14.4 million pounds last year after providing false and misleading information to the FRC during spot checks on audits of Carillion and outsourcing firm Regenersis.

Two Black women crossed state lines to give birth since they lived in places with low healthcare ratings. AdvertisementAdvertisementFor Black women, both nationally and in Texas, those rates are disproportionately higher. To avoid becoming another statistic, more and more Black women are opting for home births, doulas, midwives, and birth assistants. Due to the high maternal mortality rate in the US, some Black women are turning to midwives. Perritt warned that crossing state lines, even for those who can afford it, will not address the Black maternal mortality crisis.

If Hatke’s “Basement” is a quiet, haunted museum, Remy Lai’s graphic novel GHOST BOOK (Holt, 320 pp., $14.99, ages 8 to 12) is a crackle-pop of melodrama. Twelve-year-old July Chen can see ghosts that aren’t visible to anyone else — a useful skill during Hungry Ghost Month, when ghosts invade the world of the living. A boy ghost her age named William is at once friend and foe (turns out he’s not dead but in a coma; for him to live, she must die). (The bureaucracy here is worthy of New York City Building Code: a Birth Register, a Death Register, a Life Register, an Underlings Register.) All these scenes are drawn with a dreamlike zaniness, hewing closer to anime than Lai’s past work (“Pawcasso,” “Pie in the Sky,” “Fly on the Wall”).

The Canadian central bank had expected productivity, or output per hour worked, to improve as the economy recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, it has fallen in eleven of the last 12 quarters, taking it back to its 2016 level. It also stands to add to unit labor costs, a key measure of inflation pressures coming from higher wages. "Our own forecast is that productivity growth will turn around, but that is a risk to the outlook and if productivity growth continues declining it will make it more difficult to get inflation back to target," Macklem said. The central bank has forecast that inflation will return to its 2% target in the middle of 2025.

Cher is aging beautifully at 77, and there are certain choices she made for her diet and overall lifestyle that have likely contributed to her longevity. Though, it's important to note that longevity seems to be something that was always in store for Cher, thanks to her genetics. Her mother, Georgia Holt, lived to age 96; and according to a 1991 interview with People Magazine, her grandmother was exercising daily at age 72. "As my grandmother was approaching her 72nd birthday, I asked her, 'Grandma Lynda, what do you want for your birthday?' She said, 'Well, honey, I could really use some new sweat clothes—you know, some nice leotards,'" Cher told the magazine.

Two of the three core inflation measures also rose. The annual rate, the highest since the 4.4% reported in April, is double the Bank of Canada's 2% target. "Underlying inflation is still well above the level that would be consistent with achieving our target of 2% CPI inflation," she said. Money markets raised bets for a rate hike in October after the data, seeing a 42% chance of an increase after the price figures compared with 23% before. However, another inflation report and a bevy of other data are due out before the Canadian central bank next meets on Oct 25 to set the key overnight rate.
