Carvana shares surge on plans to cut debt load

Companies Carvana Co FollowJuly 19 (Reuters) - Carvana (CVNA.N) shares soared as much as 43% on Wednesday after the troubled used-car retailer struck a deal with most of its term bondholders to cut its outstanding debt by more than $1 billion. Carvana had long-term debt of $6.54 billion as of June end, relatively unchanged from a year earlier. But Carvana has been struggling to sell cars acquired at elevated prices as buyers, hit by inflation and worried about a recession, cut spending. Carvana shares have lost 87% of their value in the past two years. In premarket trading on Wednesday, Carvana's shares rose as high as $57, in what traders said looked like a short squeeze.

MADRID, July 6 (Reuters) - The northern Spanish city of Pamplona on Thursday marked the start of its iconic nine-day Running of the Bulls festival with the ceremonial launching of a firework known as the "chupinazo". After the highly awaited bang, the crowds cheered "Long live St Fermin! ", in reference to Pamplona's patron saint, as bands playing the traditional txistu flute and drums led them off the square in a jovial march. This year marks the 100th anniversary of American author Ernest Hemingway's first visit to the festival, which he made internationally famous in his 1926 novel "The Sun Also Rises". Measuring Office MisconductHow do you go about studying negative workplace behavior? Analyzing these dimensions separately allowed the researchers to develop a nuanced portrait of negative workplace behavior and its aftermath. When it comes to engaging in negative workplace behavior, everyone appears to be on equal footing. Since negative workplace behavior is relational, meting out punishment to individuals may not break the cycle. And because negative workplace behavior breeds further negative workplace behavior, the most important thing leaders can do is prevent people from becoming instigators in the first place.

Exxon acquired it earlier this year when it bought a neighboring Arkansas parcel of 100,000 acres from Galvanic Energy. Galvanic remains an independent, privately held company and is not affiliated with Tetra or Exxon. By partnering with Exxon, Tetra gains a large partner with capital to help it produce bromine, which is used in flame retardants, from the acreage. Exxon, meanwhile, gains access to yet another U.S. supply of lithium as the country rapidly expands its EV supply chain. Tetra had previously agreed to lease more than 27,000 acres in Arkansas to Standard Lithium (SLI.V) to produce lithium.

Bobby Osborne, the singer and mandolin player who with his younger brother, Sonny, led one of the most groundbreaking bands in the history of bluegrass, died on Tuesday at a hospital in Gallatin, Tenn., a suburb of Nashville. His death was confirmed by Dan Rogers, the vice president and executive producer of the Grand Ole Opry. Formed in 1953, the Osborne Brothers band habitually flouted bluegrass convention during its first two decades. They were the first bluegrass group of national renown to incorporate drums, electric bass, pedal steel guitar and even, on records, string sections. They were also the first to record with twin banjos, as well as the first to amplify their instruments with electric pickups.

But they also cite a number of three-body lessons from nature — starting with Newton’s — that illuminate the issue and suggest possible ways forward. “We have a conceptual problem,” said Ernest J. Moniz, a physicist who as the secretary of energy in the Obama administration oversaw the U.S. nuclear arsenal. “Anything that helps in understanding that is great.”Security-minded hawks want to expand the American arsenal in response to China’s nuclear rise and the threat of Beijing’s closing ranks with Moscow. Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser, argued that the American response should focus less on the quantity of the nation’s nuclear arms than on their quality. To deter attacks successfully, he said in a speech, the American military has no need for arms that “outnumber the combined total of our competitors.”

What do you think queer literature specifically has to say with its hybrid forms? Gay: I don’t think you can overlook nonfiction in talking about queer literature. Queer and trans people have, amazingly, taken that demand and subverted it, and that’s why those kinds of stories are so important. Also, Roxane, the point you were making about how some of the greatest truths of queer culture and activism have been done in nonfiction … Oddly enough, queer fiction writers have long hidden behind persona and character to write about queer culture and about themselves. I remember interviewing Galgut once and saying, “Your character Damon” — and he stopped me and said, “No, that’s not a character, that’s me.” I thought to myself, “I’m trying to protect you here,” which is a very quaint protectiveness on my part.

"You could end up in a crisis situation where the battery companies don't have the security of (lithium) feedstock," Stu Crow, chairman of Lake Resources (LKE.AX), said on the sidelines of this week's Fastmarkets Lithium and Battery Raw Materials conference in Las Vegas. This week, Lake Resources became the latest lithium company to announce a project delay, pushing back first production from its Kachi lithium project in Argentina by three years. Albemarle (ALB.N), the world's largest lithium producer, is growing rapidly across the Americas, Asia and Australia. Still, it expects global lithium demand to exceed supply by 500,000 metric tons in 2030. ATTENDANCEOnce a niche event attended by industry die-hards, the Fastmarkets conference has grown rapidly alongside breakneck lithium demand.

Boric's shock announcement was all the more surprising as no DLE technology has reached commercial production without the use of those ponds, sparking competition to be the first. "Given those demand projections, there's definitely need for more supply from DLE," said Jordan Roberts, a Fastmarkets lithium industry analyst. A customer aiming to produce 15,000 metric tons of lithium each year, for example, could buy three stackable IBAT lithium plants. Exxon has also held talks with EnergySource Minerals about licensing DLE technology, two of the people said. Many brine deposits have varied chemical compositions, meaning it's unlikely that one DLE technology will emerge as a global leader.

'NATURAL RESOURCES CHAOS'Further dimming the outlook for lepidolite, environmental damage is a growing concern. As it gets stricter now, lithium resources in Yichun will lose their competitiveness with the higher costs for environmental protection," Ma said. Companies Carvana Co FollowJune 9 (Reuters) - Shares of used-car retailer Carvana Co (CVNA.N) tumbled 12.5% in afternoon trading on Friday, as analysts suspect that the debt-laden company's upbeat second-quarter profit forecast is a 'one-time' upside. Carvana, known for its car-vending machines, said it sold or securitized loans worth about $2 billion as of June 8, compared with $1.3 billion sold or securitized as of May 4. Analysts also echoed worries about Carvana's plans to profitably return to growth given the existing debt load. Last month, Carvana said it expects to post a profit in the current-quarter and planned to further bring down excess used-car inventory. "Volume is still decreasing year-over-year," Carvana chief Ernest C. Garcia said in a conference on Thursday.

His latest film, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” took around seven years to come together, Scorsese and his collaborators explained on a sunny Cannes terrace the day after the Apple-financed project premiered there to glowing reviews. (It will be released in theaters this October, then debut on the streaming service at a later date.) Still, the finished film is very different than the one Scorsese and his star, Leonardo DiCaprio, originally intended to make: The material couldn’t be cracked until they were willing to throw out every notion of what they first thought “Killers of the Flower Moon” should be. There, the Osage Nation is the country’s most prosperous tribe; indeed, the discovery of oil on their land has turned them into the wealthiest people per capita in all of America. "I think Marty and I just looked at each other and we felt there was no soul to it,” DiCaprio said.

Because of his global reputation, Scorsese was uniquely placed to dispel the myths that have prevailed, she said. Referring to deceptions that have prevailed, Gladstone asked: "Why the hell does the world not know about these things?
