Rite Aid filed plans to close 154 stores on Monday as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Rite Aid is the smallest of the three major drugstore chains, well behind CVS and Walgreens. Rite Aid was expected to close stores as part of its bankruptcy. Rite Aid told Insider that it considers a variety of factors when deciding to close a store, "including business strategy, lease and rent considerations, local business conditions and viability, and store performance." "We will also strive to transfer associates to other Rite Aid locations where possible," the company said.

After the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company flipped the switch on its sprawling new Avon Lake site in 1926, the brick behemoth, then one of the world’s largest coal-fired power plants, helped usher in a new era of regional economic growth in northeastern Ohio. Nearly a century later, the plant sits dismantled and disconnected. It was shut down in 2022, and just one of its six towering smokestacks remains. The proposed cleanup and redevelopment of this ossified power plant joins a growing collection of such projects across the nation. The sites were so decayed, community members considered them a blemish.

REUTERS/Lindsay DeDario/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 28 (Reuters) - Donald Trump will not seek to move a criminal case alleging he conspired to reverse his 2020 presidential election loss in Georgia from state to federal court, his lawyers said on Thursday, a development that could simplify the former U.S. president's path to trial. Trump has denied wrongdoing and said the case is part of a political witch hunt. Trump, Meadows and 17 others were charged in a sprawling indictment in August. Trump has said the criminal case and three others he faces are part of a political plot aimed at preventing him from retaking the White House in next year's election.

The nearly week-old United Auto Workers strike against Ford (F.N), General Motors (GM.N) and Stellantis (STLAM.MI) is viewed as a signal of the strength of the U.S. labor movement that has garnered national support from Americans. The UAW members from two striking plants gathered in Toledo were rolling out for the one-hour, 45-mile (72 km) drive to Wayne, Michigan, where Ford workers also walked off the job last week. In Michigan, Ohio and Missouri, the three states where workers are currently striking, models made by the Big Three dominate the leaderboard of new auto registrations. The United States is still the second-largest car market in the world, trailing only China. Union membership has fallen steadily over several decades in the United States.

Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump reacts as he holds a campaign rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, U.S., July 29, 2023. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee cited logistical concerns and the array of unsettled legal issues in separating the trial of attorneys Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell from Trump and the other 16 co-defendants. Trump was charged in August in an indictment alleging he and his co-defendants conspired to pressure Georgia election officials to reverse his loss to Democratic President Joe Biden. Powell and Chesebro, two attorneys accused of aiding Trump's efforts to reverse his election defeat, previously asked for a speedy trial, which is scheduled to begin October 23. Trump and several other defendants said that timeline would not give them enough time to prepare a defense.

Outside Albany, N.Y., where hundreds of recent migrants have been bused upstate from New York City, David Buicko sees an obvious solution to the labor shortage he and other employers are experiencing. “I’d hire probably 20 people tomorrow,” said Mr. Buicko, the president of the Galesi Group, a Schenectady-based developer, who said prospective workers are still waiting for legal authorization. “It’s crazy that we can’t fill a void, we don’t have population growth, and we’ve got people that we’re just bringing in, sitting around doing nothing.”Mr. Buicko is not alone. Trump is appealing the May 9 jury verdict, as well as Kaplan's June 29 refusal to dismiss the current lawsuit, to the 2nd U.S. REPUTATIONAL HARMIn his 25-page decision, Kaplan said the May 9 jury verdict eliminated the need to relitigate the alleged attack. Kaplan also said the verdict precluded Trump from arguing that his June 2019 statements, which were similar to his October 2022 statements, were not defamatory. On Aug. 18, Judge Kaplan called Trump's appeal of his decision to let the second case go to trial "frivolous." An Erie County, N.Y., judge on Wednesday set aside the convictions of two men who, despite their protests of innocence, were found guilty in the grisly 1993 murder of a young mother outside Buffalo. Justice Wojtaszek ordered that the two men, Brian Scott Lorenz and James Pugh, be granted new trials in the slaying of the young mother, Deborah Meindl, who was killed in her home in Tonawanda, N.Y. The judge rejected the men’s assertions of innocence. But he ruled that new trials were warranted because of new evidence, and because the original prosecutors had violated rules governing the sharing of evidence. The Erie County District Attorney’s Office said it would be appealing the judge’s decision.

Two grand juries were empaneled last month in Fulton County Superior Court, either of which could be used by Willis to seek criminal charges related to her election probe. "I challenged the election in Georgia, which I have every right to do, which I was right about, frankly," Trump told the crowd. It's "all about election interference," Trump said before repeating his false claim that his 2020 election loss was tainted by widespread fraud.
