"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Angela Lansbury," according to statement by Actors' Equity, the union representing live stage performers. "A star of stage, TV and movies, Lansbury was an Equity member for an astounding 65 years. Angela Lansbury stars as mystery writer and crime solver Jessica Fletcher on the CBS television crime drama series "Murder, She Wrote" in 1990. The TV academy nominated Lansbury for 12 Emmys for “Murder,” although she never took home the trophy. Edgar Lansbury was mayor of the London borough of Poplar, while George Lansbury served as Labour Party leader in 1932-34.
Nearly seven decades after her first film, she was awarded an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement at age 88 in November 2013. "I feel really undeserving of this gorgeous chap," Lansbury said, referring to the golden Oscar statuette she was given. "Not since the heyday of Bette Davis had there been an actress of this range and accomplishment," wrote critic David Shipman. Lansbury was born in London in 1925 and went to the United States in 1940 to avoid the war with her mother, actress Moyna McGill, who appeared in several Hollywood films. Lansbury, who lived in Los Angeles, married actor Richard Cromwell in 1945 but the union lasted less than a year.

Moderna has asked the Food and Drug Administration to authorize its omicron booster shots for children, the company announced on Friday. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in a document published Tuesday, said it expects children to become eligible for the omicron boosters by mid-October pending authorization by the FDA. Pfizer told the CDC advisory committee earlier this month that it expects to ask the FDA to authorize omicron boosters for children ages 5 to 11 in early October. U.S. health regulators cleared Moderna's omicron boosters for adults earlier this month. There is also concern that the original shots' effectiveness at preventing hospitalization and severe illness is starting to decline.
(CNN) "Do Revenge" has all the makings of an attention-generating machine, combining a "Mean Girls" vibe with the stars of two popular teen franchises in Camila Mendes ("Riverdale") and Maya Hawke ("Stranger Things"). It's too bad the Netflix movie doesn't match those qualities, offering a mishmash of homages that's mildly diverting but can't ace the final. Yet the plot (based on a script by Robinson and Celeste Ballard) doesn't pursue that enticing prospect with much conviction, which might explain why it runs out of steam down the stretch. The movie also owes debts to a lot of other teen fare, such as "Cruel Intentions," itself an adaptation of the French novel that became "Dangerous Liaisons." Mostly, it's a story of unlikely friendship, set against the backdrop of another private school where the parties make Roman bacchanals seem restrained and pale by comparison.
When families learned that a gunman had entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, at 11:33 a.m. on May 24, a brutal wait began. Police on the scene did not stop the gunman until well over an hour after he walked into the school, raising questions about whether lives could have been saved if they had acted sooner. Parents who rushed to the school were held outside, where many were forced to wait to learn if their children were safe. What follows is an account of each of those 78 minutes, as told by video evidence, statements by witnesses and law enforcement, and accounts of 911 calls. The toll — 19 students and two teachers dead, and more than a dozen others wounded — would not be released until many hours later.
