None of the studies noted improvements in mental health care or declines in suicide attempts or deaths after the warnings were implemented. While an increase in antidepressant use occurred before the FDA advisory, there were abrupt and sustained declines in use — ranging from 20% to 50% — after the warnings. Three studies reported increases in psychotropic drug poisonings, which suggest suicide attempts, and in suicide deaths among children. However, “the study convincingly suggests that the Black Box warning may have made at least some providers and families anxious about treating adolescents with antidepressants,” Fortuna said. Every young person differs in the level of risk, needs and circumstances, Fortuna said, and antidepressants can be lifesaving.

More than 90% of travelers from Southeast Asia say that gun prevalence in the United States influences whether they will visit, according to a new survey. However, nearly 80% said the likelihood that they would attend a mass gathering — such as a concert or music festival — would be greatly or moderately affected by the number of guns in the United States. Half of those surveyed said they have been to the United States. But a prior visit didn't calm Singaporeans' worries about gun violence to the same extent as other nationalities. Another 5% said they will out-and-out refuse to visit if Trump wins, with 2% saying the same about a Harris win.

As Donald Trump visits Butler, Pa., today for the first time since he narrowly survived an assassination attempt there, current and former Secret Service agents fear another security lapse. One law enforcement official told NBC News that the Secret Service is “stretched virtually to the breaking point.”“I hate to say it, they are going to hit rock bottom fast” said one former Secret Service agent. “The Secret Service is upside down on that, maybe operational 99% and 1% training," the former official said. Current and former officials are also concerned about a mass exodus of Secret Service personnel over the next 18 months. U.S. officials say that the challenges at the Secret Service will require a range of changes to ensure long-term stability.

Jennifer Ann Crecente, a high school girl murdered in 2006, recently reappeared as a chatbot on Character.ai. And they’ve kept up a drumbeat of dubious claims about voting, along with the lie that the election was stolen in 2020. Prosecutors allege that the Trump campaign used similarly aggressive tactics in Philadelphia to force confrontation with election officials, which Trump and his allies used to claim his supporters were denied access to observe the count. Election officials have been operating in an increasingly hostile environment as GOP skepticism of election administration has climbed. Among them: shifting numbers of noncitizens Trump allies claimed had voted in the 2020 election. In Georgia, state courts are reviewing new rules from the State Election Board that Democrats say give county election officials broad authority to delay certification of the results in search of purported election irregularities.

You think you know the story of Lyle and Erik Menendez. Both brothers said they had been sexually, physically and emotionally abused for years by their parents. Soon, the Menendez brothers’ case would continue to play out amid another high-profile murder case prosecuted by the same DA’s office. The prosecutor, having successfully argued to exclude the abuse testimony, mocked the brothers’ defense during his closing arguments for not producing any evidence of abuse. Despite overwhelming family testimony acknowledging the abuse Erik and Lyle suffered, the public remained skeptical.

She found exactly what she was looking for in the NBC missing persons procedural drama “Found,” which returns for its sophomore season on Thursday. That story cited the Black and Missing Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing awareness to missing people of color. Okoro Carroll did not consult the organization until the end of the first season, but said the founders have given their seal of approval. Okoro Carroll began researching the role that public relations play in missing persons cases, which the Department of Justice has said can add up to 600,000 new missing people every year. Colorectal cancer cases have been rising in people younger than 50 over the last two decades. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force isn’t the first group to suggest lowering the screening age. The new study found that colorectal cancer screening among 45 to 49-year-olds remains low overall, but increased threefold following the 2021 guideline change. “One of the biggest predictors of whether you get age-appropriate cancer screening is whether or not you have insurance,” Lieu said. Colonoscopy is the gold standard for colorectal cancer screening, since it can detect not only cancerous tumors, but precancerous polyps that can be removed before they can turn into cancer.

The United States has seen indications that Iran is preparing to "imminently" launch a ballistic missile attack on Israel on the heels of Israel's ground incursion into south Lebanon, a senior White House official told NBC News on Tuesday,The White House official warned that any direct attack on Israel by Iran "will carry severe consequences for Iran." "We are actively supporting defensive preparations to defend Israel against this attack," the official said. Iran's suspected planned attack came as Israeli ground forces invaded south Lebanon as part of an attack on Hezbollah, the militant group backed by Iran. The number of Israeli troops who have entered Lebanon is in "the low hundreds," an Israeli official told NBC News. In April, Iran launched an attack on Israel that included more than 300 drones and ballistic missiles after two top Iranian commanders were killed by an Israeli airstrike in Syria.

London CNN —Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has controversially broken royal protocol and claimed in his upcoming memoir that Queen Elizabeth II was suffering from bone cancer before her death. Johnson isn’t the first prime minister to reminisce about his life, time in office and interactions with the late Queen in an autobiography. Buckingham Palace has a policy not to comment on books released about the royal family and as such has not confirmed or denied Johnson’s assertions. Johnson, who served as prime minister between 2019 and 2022, recalls traveling to the royal residence of Balmoral for the customary outgoing audience and resignation. Thinking back on that last time the pair sat together in the Queen’s drawing room, Johnson said that he understood Young’s forewarning.
