BEST: Dua Lipa opened the show with a skillful medley of new music. Dua Lipa performs "Training Season" at the 2024 Grammys. Christopher Polk/Billboard via Getty ImagesMuch has been made about Dua Lipa's improved stage presence over the years, but still, it bears repeating. When the Grammys kicked off on Sunday, Lipa took her rightful place at the center of it all, delivering all the elements of a classic performance: fashion, choreography, sultry eye contact, and new music. Instead of the song she was nominated for, "Dance the Night," Lipa opted to perform a medley of her two new singles, "Houdini" and the unreleased "Training Season" — a power move befitting a true pop star.

There is no reason why Beyoncé's "Renaissance" should've lost album of the year. Her eighth album, the queer-pop masterpiece "Renaissance," was the obvious choice for album of the year in 2023. And to be clear, "Harry's House" is good, but it's no "Renaissance." Once again, Beyoncé was triumphant in genre-specific categories — best dance/pop album, best dance/electronic recording for "Break My Soul," best traditional R&B performance for "Plastic Off the Sofa," best R&B song for "Cuff It" — but not in the prestigious general-field races. In fact, out of her record-breaking 32 wins, only one has been in a general-field category: song of the year for "Single Ladies" in 2010.

True to form, Swift ensured this year's Grammy discourse would be dominated by her music, even if she didn't win a major award. Alas, the evening ended with Swift notching her record-breaking fourth win for album of the year. I was even more disappointed to watch Swift win over SZA, whose sophomore album, "SOS," earned universal acclaim. Despite being the most awarded person in Grammy history, Beyoncé has won only once in a general-field category (song of the year for "Single Ladies" in 2010). Only 11 Black artists have ever won album of the year.

He won again in 1975 for "Fulfillingness' First Finale," becoming just the second artist ever to win the award in consecutive years, after Frank Sinatra in the '60s. Along with Sinatra, Paul Simon, and Taylor Swift, Wonder is one of just four artists who has won album of the year three different times; Wonder won again in 1977 for "Songs in the Key of Life," and he remains the only artist in Grammy history to win with three consecutive studio albums.

For example, Ryan Gosling received a best supporting actor nomination, but Margot Robbie was snubbed. These include a few pleasant surprises, like best picture and best supporting actress for America Ferrera, who delivers a moving feminist monologue at the movie's climax. But Ryan Gosling nabbed a nomination for best supporting actor as Ken, the heroine's sidekick who becomes obsessed with the power of patriarchy. Michael Jackson/YouTubeThe Hot 100 is widely considered the definitive all-genre singles chart in the US. Although it was officially launched in 1958, Billboard began using modern airplay and sales data in 1991 — allowing for more time-sensitive calculations and accurate rankings. Michael Jackson was the first-ever artist to accomplish this feat when "You Are Not Alone" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated September 2, 1995. It was the second single from Jackson's ninth studio album "HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I."

Read previewAriana Grande confirmed fan suspicions on Wednesday when she announced the title of her seventh album: "Eternal Sunshine." The coordinates led to Montauk, New York, a key location in the 2004 sci-fi film "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." But the promise of a "spotless mind," free of anger and heartache, is too enticing. My very first viewing of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" occurred in 2010, when I was 14. The "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" is, in short, a lie.

Big Machine RecordsFinal grade: 8.3/10Any Swiftie will tell you that "Reputation" was made to be played live. Indeed, I challenge anyone to watch the Reputation Stadium Tour's concert film on Netflix and not come away with intensified respect for bangers like "...Ready For It?" Even "Dancing With Our Hands Tied," one of my least favorite tracks in terms of production, shines in concert with Swift's acoustic rendition. But the reality is that outside of those clips, "Reputation" exists as an album, not a live show. And despite glimmers of genius, the "Reputation" tracklist contains some of Swift's worst decisions to date.
