CNN —Some news organizations are beating around the bush when covering prominent figures who hold detestable views, many of which are wholly unhinged from reality. That has been on display over the last 24 hours on three different fronts: In stories about Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. “This type of normal language news organizations use doesn’t communicate how unhinged some of this stuff is,” media columnist Margaret Sullivan told me Tuesday. But the duty of a journalist and news organizations is to tell the story, without fear or favor. It gives those figures who profit financially and/or politically from extremist rhetoric license to continue trafficking in the destructive noise.

National median closing prices for single-family homes have been on the rise for the last 13 weeks. The major contributor to the upward price pressure is a lack of inventory, says Brandon Lwowski. State and local officials have touted the settlements as providing desperately needed relief to communities hit hard by the crisis. But when the money will be paid out, and who will get it, remains far from clear, Reuters has found. Among the states where money is already reaching organizations on the ground are Massachusetts, Kentucky and Arizona. Most states share a significant portion of their total settlement funds with their city and county governments, which make their own independent decisions about how to spend. But in May, the board overseeing the state’s opioid settlement denied a joint application by Challenges and a county health department to fund harm reduction efforts, without explaining its decision.

A spokeswoman for the city told the Akron Beacon Journal that there would be no comment on the litigation from the city. The officers pursued Walker on foot after an attempted traffic stop in June 2022 and shot him dozens of times, including five times in the back, police officials said. "Only then did the officers fire believing Mr. Walker was firing again at them," said Yost, whose office was asked by local prosecutors to investigate the shooting. State law allows officers to use deadly force against a deadly threat to themselves or others, he added. A media lawsuit seeking the names of the officers is pending before the Ohio Supreme Court.

Last month, Huggins was disciplined after he used a homophobic slur twice and mocked Catholics on a local Cincinnati radio program. Huggins, who coached at the University of Cincinnati from 1989 to 2005, was charged with drunken driving in Ohio in 2004 and pleaded no contest. In 38 seasons as the head coach at Akron, Cincinnati, Kansas State and West Virginia, he led his teams to 26 N.C.A.A. Our four industrial-focused stocks — Caterpillar (CAT), Emerson Electric (EMR), Honeywell (HON) and Linde (LIN) — have all been gaining steam over the past three months. There are positive short-term catalysts for our industrial holdings including the U.S. government's commitment to infrastructure spending, global decarbonization initiatives, and industrial automation. For all these reasons, Jim said EMR stock has been "stuck in the mud." EMR stock also pays a healthy 2.5% annual dividend yield and is a real dividend aristocrat. Rep. Adam Schiff is facing censure for investigating Trump. Rep. George Santos, who has repeatedly lied and was recently indicted on 13 criminal charges, supports the censure. The Santos-supported resolution calls for the fine because, it claims, Schiff "lied, made misrepresentations and abused sensitive information." Republican lawmakers, state attorneys general and several advocacy groups have voiced their support for Illumina's acquisition of cancer-test developer Grail while the Federal Trade Commission fights to unwind the deal. The groups filed 14 amicus briefs Monday urging the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to reverse an FTC order that would have Illumina undo the $7.1 billion Grail deal over concerns that it stifles competition. Thirty-four Republican lawmakers touted Grail's early screening test, which can detect more than 50 types of cancers through a single blood draw. And activist investor Carl Icahn, who holds a 1.4% stake in Illumina, launched a proxy fight with the company over the Grail deal. Icahn's opposition stemmed from Illumina's decision to close the acquisition without first gaining approval from antitrust regulators.

That’s where you’ll want to be on April 8, 2024, to take advantage of the last opportunity for decades to see a total solar eclipse over the contiguous United States. Just under seven years after the American eclipse in August 2017, next year’s total solar eclipse will provide the last easy access to such an event for most US residents until August 23, 2044. People watch the solar eclipse on the lawn of Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles on August 21, 2017. The longer people wait, the harder it will be to find accommodations inside the eclipse path. People watch the solar eclipse from Clingmans Dome in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee on August 21, 2017.

(Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images)Horses died in consecutive races at Belmont Park, dealing more untimely blows to the beleaguered sport which had little time to celebrate of its most uplifting events of the year. "Two dead Thoroughbreds in two days with the same trainer on the same track means one thing: Belmont Park is failing to protect horses," PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo said in a statement. Including Mashnee Girl and Excursionniste, four horses have died during races at Belmont Park's spring/summer meet, which began on May 4 and has encompassed 1,670 horses starting in 214 races, according to McKenna. Saturday's Belmont Stakes capped a tumultuous five weeks of racing that normally shines a bright light on the sport of kings.

Arcangelo thundered down the stretch of the Belmont Stakes to win the 155th running of the Belmont Stakes by a length and a half and made a little history: His trainer, Jena Antonucci, became the first female trainer to win a Triple Crown race, a series that spans more than a century. Since the two shared that moment eight years ago, the two trainers — both members of the Hall of Fame — have continued to reign over the sport, for better and for worse. Both Baffert and Pletcher have a gift with horses and their demanding owners. One of the horses, a colt named Forte, will face off against the Baffert-trained National Treasure and seven other thoroughbreds in the 155th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday. Horses that he trains have failed 30 drug tests over four decades — most notably Medina Spirit, who won the 2021 Kentucky Derby but failed a test for a prohibited drug and was disqualified. That colt was only the second horse in the Derby’s 149-year history whose victory was revoked because of a drug violation.
