Mysterious gold foil figures found in Norway
  + stars: | 2023-10-12 | by ( Taylor Nicioli | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +7 min
The tiny pieces — intricately detailed gold foil figures discovered during excavations of a pagan religious temple — are a rare find in Norway. A total of 35 gold foil figures have been found at the Hov temple site. The remains of the Hov temple were uncovered in 1993 along with two gold figures. The five latest pieces uncovered were buried under the temple's walls and within post holes of the structure, leading researchers to believe the gold figures were placed there intentionally. The gold foils were pressed into a stamp dye made of bronze, similar to the process of making a coin, according to Watt.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jonathan Marchessault scored, Adin Hill made 23 saves and the Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights beat the Seattle Kraken 4-1 on Tuesday night after a banner-raising ceremony. Chandler Stephenson, Ivan Barbashev and Jack Eichel also scored for the Golden Knights. The Golden Knights improved to 6-1-0 in home openers, their only loss coming in 2018 to Philadelphia. The Golden Knights made it 2-0 when Seattle’s Brandon Tanev went to clear the puck past the goal, but Marchessault nicked it off course and past Grubauer. But just as he did in standing tall during the Golden Knights’ Stanley Cup run, Hill was outstanding in making six saves during the penalty kill.

Jamie Kelter Davis | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesA recession has been in the forecast for much of 2023. "A recession is obviously going to happen at some point," said Jack Manley, global market strategist at JPMorgan Asset Management. Those factors may prompt the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates higher for longer, Aleman said. Experts say the key is to automate your savings so you do not even see the money in your paycheck. Another advantage to saving now: Rising interest rates mean the potential returns on that money are the highest they have been in 15 years.

Following the comments from top Fed officials on Monday, Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic said the U.S. central bank does not need to raise interest rates any further, and that he sees no recession ahead. "Everybody has one eye on the Middle East conflict and one eye on what's happening with bond yields. The decline in bond yields is the key driver today," said John Praveen, managing director & co-chief investment officer at Paleo Leon. "If tensions escalate bond yields might decline further because they're a safe haven but equities would sell off in that instance because of increased uncertainty and risk aversion," he said. But the flight to safety has made Treasury yields fall enough to push up equities," Tuz said.

Oct 10 (Reuters) - Truist Financial (TFC.N) is in talks to sell its insurance brokerage unit to private equity firm Stone Point for about $10 billion, news website Semafor reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter. Stone Point bought a 20% stake in the unit, known as Truist Insurance Holdings, in April in a deal that valued the business at $14.75 billion. When the transaction was unveiled in February, before the industry turmoil, Truist said it would continue to own 80% of the unit. The talks with Stone Point are ongoing, according to the Semafor report, which added that a deal may hinge on Stone Point's ability to scrounge up enough debt. Truist Financial declined to comment on the Semafor report, while Truist Insurance and Stone Point did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.
