Van der Sloot, 36, was extradited to Alabama in June from a prison in Peru, where he has been serving a 28-year sentence for murdering another woman in Lima. Eyewitnesses said she was last seen leaving a bar in a car with van der Sloot on the night of her disappearance. Van der Sloot has reached a plea deal with U.S. prosecutors that require him to also truthfully disclose what happened to Natalee Holloway, according to John Q. Kelly, a lawyer for the Holloway family. A public defender representing van der Sloot and a spokesperson for the U.S. attorney's office did not respond to questions about a plea deal. In 2012, van der Sloot was convicted in Peru after he confessed to beating, strangling and suffocating Stephany Flores, a 21-year-old Peruvian business student, in May 2010.

Dutch citizen Joran van der Sloot is also accused of extorting and defrauding the teen’s mother. But Kelly confirmed to CNN that van der Sloot intends to plead guilty in connection to the case. The 18-year-old was last seen leaving a nightclub with van der Sloot and two other men, brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe. They were rearrested and charged in 2007 for “involvement in the voluntary manslaughter of Natalee Holloway or causing serious bodily harm to Natalee Holloway, resulting in her death,” Aruban prosecutors said at the time. Van der Sloot confessed to killing Flores and was sentenced to 28 years in a Peruvian prison.

Southeast Asia looks to renewable power for energy security

As energy demand grows, the region is turning to renewable energy to safeguard its energy security. Most, if not all, Southeast Asian markets have taken strides to announce renewable energy targets and formulate their low-carbon energy transition plans, said Thoo. Other planned developments include an integrated renewable energy zone, five centralized large-scale solar parks and three green hydrogen production plants. These projects will leverage Malaysia's estimated 290 gigawatts of technical renewable energy potential to create a more resilient, low-carbon power system, said the ministry. Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar are projected to account for at least 31% of national energy needs by 2030, the government said, according to Reuters.

LUCKNOW, India, Oct 16 (Reuters) - Australia's Adam Zampa would not rate his performance against Sri Lanka in Monday's World Cup clash among his best but its importance was not lost on the leg spinner. Smarting from back-to-back defeats, five-time champions Australia moved off the bottom of the points table after their five-wicket victory against 1996 champions Sri Lanka. Zampa went wicketless against India and bled 70 runs in his 10 overs for the lone wicket of Rassie van der Dussen against South Africa. The spinner said he did not try anything different against Sri Lanka. "We've got a tough game coming up next against Pakistan but I am going to try and keep things the same for me."

Brother determined to find sister missing after kibbutz raid

Her husband Alon and toddler made it back to the kibbutz after hiding in the woods for 12 hours, her brother Gili Roman said on Friday. Roman-Gat, a 35-year-old dual Israeli-German national, had left Kibbutz Be'eri a month ago, fearful of the region's insecurity and had only returned there for a Sabbath visit the day before the raid, Roman said. On Friday, Roman surveyed the wreckage of the family home in Kibbutz Be'eri, an agricultural kibbutz 3 miles (5 km) from Gaza, which was one of the first towns hit in Hamas' attack. The Israeli military said it killed dozens of Hamas gunmen in the Be'eri area. "We are talking about our family, three women captured, in captivity, held hostage by the terrorist regime in Gaza," Roman said, adding relatives and friends had been searching for them since the attack.

LUCKNOW, India, Oct 12 (Reuters) - South Africa crushed Australia by 134 runs to cruise to their second victory at the World Cup, as Quinton de Kock struck back-to-back tons and Aiden Markram made a half-century before the bowlers ripped through the five-times champions on Thursday. South Africa's win was built on a platform provided by De Kock, who made 109 while Markram hit 56 to help the Proteas post 311-7 in 50 overs. South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma (35) gained two reprieves as Australia failed to hold onto difficult chances before Glenn Maxwell (2-34) snared him, but the Proteas marched on as De Kock twice hit Josh Hazlewood into the stands in the 23rd over. Cummins could have had two more wickets but Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Starc put down chances on a sloppy day in the field but a double strike by Starc (2-53) in the last over kept South Africa from swelling the score. "The players know what a win means for the country, it can change a lot. Prop Johan Coetzee and wing Gerswin Mouton are therefore the only players to have started all four matches in France. Klaasen guides South Africa to one-sided win over Australia

PRETORIA, Sept 15 - Heinrich Klaasen bludgeoned the ball to all corners in a blistering knock of 174 to lead South Africa to a comprehensive 164-run victory over Australia and level the five-match one-day series to 2-2 on Friday. Klaasen hit 13 sixes in an awe-inspiring display of power hitting to help South Africa to a total of 416-5 – their second highest against Australia – after they had been put into bat. Australia were always going to be up against it after Klaasen’s innings had ensured a mammoth tally after a tepid start by the home side. South Africa had scored 120-3 halfway through their innings, on an unusually slow wicket, and were looking at mediocre total when Klaasen came to the crease. It ended with the last ball of the innings when Klaasen was caught in the deep.

Based on my research as a psychologist and experience raising two young daughters, here are six things Dutch parents never do:1. It's very common to see Dutch kids run free on the playground without too much supervision. Dutch parents make a point to have at least one meal together every day. Dutch children are consistently given a clear daily schedule that allows for plenty of naps for the little ones and prioritizes stability.
