London CNN —A twice-stolen painting by Italian Renaissance master Titian, which was once found in a plastic bag at a bus stop in London, sold for $22.3 million at auction on Tuesday. Titian, whose real name was Tiziano Vecellio, made the work in the first decade of the 16th century, at the beginning of his career. Measuring just 18.25 inches by 24.75 inches (46.2 centimeters x 62.9 centimeters), the painting is tiny compared with some of the massive works for which Titian became known later in his life. In 1995, it was stolen from Longleat, the home of Thynne’s descendants, and disappeared for seven years, before it was found at a bus stop in London by art detective Charles Hill. “This picture has captured the imaginations of audiences for more than half a millennia and will no doubt continue to do so,” he added.

CNN —In the first week of a new Trump administration, President Joe Biden’s climate wins would get put through the shredder. “He has said he’s going to come back with a vengeance,” former US special climate envoy John Kerry told CNN. He has railed against Biden’s climate policies at rallies and derided clean energy, vowing to push America back to fossil fuels. He has openly courted the oil industry at fundraising events, the Washington Post reported, promising regulation rollbacks in exchange for campaign cash. It could happen “very fast,” said David Bernhardt, who served as Interior Secretary in the Trump administration.

Read previewWhole Foods has long had a reputation as a pricey place to buy groceries. Since Amazon acquired the grocery chain in 2017, it has cut prices several times. The reductions appeared to take aim at Whole Foods' higher-than-average prices — something that had long led critics to refer to the chain as "Whole Paycheck." AdvertisementI then compared the prices I found there with those at a nearby Safeway, a middle-market grocery chain owned by Albertsons. I also used loyalty programs to get discounts at both stores — including Amazon Prime at Whole Foods.

NVDA 1Y line Large cloud computing firms, such as Microsoft , Amazon and Google , have bought billions of dollars worth of AI chips from Nvidia over the past two years. Investors now want to know whether these Big Tech giants will be able to make a return on their investment — a precursor for further spending on AI chips. However, "tentative" signs have started to emerge that spending on AI chips may be spurring investment in the broader economy, Capital Economics said. CGI Inc For clues as to how quickly AI technologies are being adopted, Scotiabank highlighted CGI , a Canadian multinational IT firm that helps companies introduce AI into their business models and operations. So far, the only part of Earth AI seems hell-bent on dominating is the power grid. AI data centers are doubling the pace of electricity demand growth in the US to the extent that demand could exceed supply in just two years without action, according to Bernstein Research. The potential shortfall could mean higher prices for the computing power AI developers of all sizes are clamoring for, along with ample opportunity for investors willing to build up supply. How are AI companies planning aheadIt's not just the total power needed for AI computing infrastructure, it's the unique cadence of the power need and the cooling AI chips require. Amazon is clearing some of these hurdles by colocating some data centers with nuclear power sites.

Although larger grocery stores will offer a bigger variety, it generally won't be as vast as an American supermarket. For instance, urban grocery stores in Germany simply don't have the physical capacity the way many American grocery shops do, allowing American shops to stock numerous brands and types of the same product. You have to bag your own stuffAt most major American grocery stores, your groceries generally get bagged for you as you check out. Most Germans do their grocery shopping at standard and discount grocery stores. Opening times at German grocery stores may seem short in comparison to US storesMany Americans who visit Germany are surprised to find that German grocery stores have more limited opening times than they are used to.

watch nowHeadline inflation in the euro area dipped to 2.5% in June, the European Union's statistics agency said Tuesday, while the closely watched core and services prints held steady. Core inflation, excluding the volatile effects of energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, stayed at 2.9% from the prior month, narrowly missing the 2.8% economists had forecast. Investors will now parse what the latest data means for the trajectory of interest rates in the 20-nation euro zone, following the European Central Bank's initial 25 basis point cut in June. Volatility in the consumer price index has long been expected this year, as choppy base effects from the energy market unwind. In June, year-on-year energy inflation in the euro zone was 0.2%, a sharp switch from earlier in the year when the sector had a strong disinflationary pull.

Few auto executives are as closely identified with the companies they manage as Elon Musk, the chief executive of Tesla, is. And probably none are more prolific in broadcasting their political views on social media. His image as an erratic, impulsive manager appears to have rubbed off on the cars, raising doubts in some people’s minds about their quality and helping to explain why Tesla sales have been falling. “Musk is a true lightning rod,” said Ben Rose, the president of Battle Road Research, which has a generally positive view on Tesla’s stock. “There are people who swear by him and people who swear at him.

America has a serious ugly home problem

Recently she posted a video on her YouTube channel in which she phrased the question more bluntly: "Why are homes so 'ugly' now?" Most people agree that America needs more houses, but nobody seems all that thrilled with the ones being built. Related storiesThe blame for America's architectural nightmare, however, doesn't stop at production builders, rising costs, or local codes. Homes look this way because they're not just places where we live — they're also supposed to help us get rich. As they stare down these rising costs, builders and architects have almost no choice but to streamline or opt for cheaper design elements.
