CNN —The 2024 Tony Awards are underway at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. Heading into the ceremony, Alicia Keys’ ambitious musical “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Stereophonic,” a play set in the ’70s about fictional band, led with 13 nominations each. Cast members from productions including “Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club,” “The Who’s Tommy,” “Water for Elephants” and the Hillary Clinton-produced “Suffs,” among others, are slated to perform. The Tony Awards are airing on CBS at 8 p.m. EDT/5 p.m. PDT and will stream on Paramount+ in the US. Of all issues tested, Biden recorded his lowest approval rating on immigration in a CNN poll in February — just 30%. Progressives face their own dilemmaBiden would never say it bluntly in public, but his gamble with progressives carries an implicit question — where else are they going to go? Some Haley supporters on Tuesday welcomed Biden’s immigration actions, CNN’s Kit Maher reported. “While many Haley voters continue to have policy differences, this common-sense action is a clear step in the right direction to address one of the top priorities of many Haley voters,” the Haley Voters Working Group, a coalition of approximately 25 conservative Haley supporters, posted on X.

WASHINGTON — At Nativity grade school, we grew up steeped in the lore — and gore — of martyrs. For their brave deeds and words, these men and women were stoned, crucified, beheaded, stripped of all their skin, shot with arrows and cooked alive on a red-hot griddle. So I’m a little surprised my siblings would somehow put Donald Trump in those martyrs’ sainted company. My sister and brother, disturbed by Trump’s constant chaos and slashing insults, saw their hopes for Ron DeSantis or Nikki Haley evaporate. I called my Republican sibs Friday to see if hearing the word “guilty” ring out 34 times in a New York courtroom had finally severed them from Trump; they are, after all, children of a police detective.

CNN —President Joe Biden announced Friday that Israel has offered a “comprehensive new proposal” that provides a “roadmap” to a ceasefire in the war with Hamas in Gaza and the release of all hostages held by the terror group. “And the Palestinian people have endured sheer hell of this war,” Biden said. Earlier on Friday, Israel said its forces have entered central Rafah, the city in southern Gaza that Biden has warned should not be the target of a major ground offensive. Biden will be speaking as negotiations continue to secure the release of hostages in exchange for a temporary ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas. White House officials have sought this week to explain Biden’s stance, suggesting his barometer for changing policy would be a “major ground invasion” of the city.
