HONG KONG, May 25 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Foreigners that once piled into offshore Chinese equities are evacuating as confidence in the country’s economic recovery sags. The China trade has always been unbalanced towards overseas-listed Chinese consumer and internet firms, and foreigners preferred building factories, acquiring large stakes in companies and the like over portfolio trading. Even at a peak in 2021, they held barely over 8 trillion yuan ($1.1 trillion) of yuan-denominated Chinese stocks and bonds, per official data, compared to $27 trillion of American equivalents. Now the former figure has fallen below 7 trillion yuan. Major Chinese indexes in Hong Kong and New York have also slid, with the Nasdaq Golden Dragon China Index having lost around 15% in the last three months.

The streaming residual check amounted to one-third of the $12,000 Jones received in residuals for writing one episode of the ABC drama "Queens." The writers argue that streaming services, which upended decades of television industry business practices, have significantly undercut their compensation. RESIDUALS WERE 'VERY HEALTHY'Streaming changed the compensation structure and now accounts for the largest share of TV residuals. One studio executive said writers negotiated a 46% increase in residuals for streaming programs, starting in 2022. The latest guild proposal would bump foreign streaming residuals by 200%, a number studio executives noted fails to recognize that subscription fees vary from country to country.
LONDON, May 22 (Reuters) - U.S. pop-rock duo Sparks say they are still peaking creatively, putting out "provocative and challenging" music as they release their 26th studio album, "The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte", this week. The brothers, Russell on vocals and Ron on keyboard, released their debut album in 1971, originally as Halfnelson before changing their name. “There's a stronger bond to the band than it might be if we weren't brothers," Ron Mael said. "We feel creatively that we're still peaking, but...we're so pleasantly surprised at the reaction in particular with the tour," Ron Mael said. "We've written the screenplay and also done all the music... they're billing it as an epic musical," Russell Mael said.
The round, pellet-like ice nuggets will replace the thin ice chips Starbucks currently offers. Starbucks' current ice cubes. Starbucks said in several tests, it found the nugget ice does not melt faster than its current ice cubes, and that most customers didn't notice the difference in ice. The company said they'd be using the same ice scoop, and the volume of ice per beverage would not change. Various restaurant supply and ice machine manufacturer sites tout the versatility of nugget ice, including that it is easy to blend.

CNN —Starbucks is betting big on olive oil infused coffee, hoping customers will be enticed by the anomaly and the health benefits of extra virgin olive oil. Science behind the painOlive oil is a staple in Mediterranean culture and some drink bits of olive oil in the region daily. But the Starbucks drink has a potentially fragile combination: caffeine, which is a stimulant, and olive oil, which is a relaxant. Former CEO Howard Schultz picked up this habit himself from olive oil producer Tommaso Asaro while in Sicily, Italy. “He thought it was a little strange.” Asaro is the chairman of United Olive Oil, through which Starbucks is sourcing its olive oil.
In it, they share an experience their coworkers allegedly had after trying the new roster of Oleato drinks. For those unfamiliar, these new coffee drinks are infused with Partanna cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil and debuted on Feb. 21 in limited markets. I'm wondering how many people are going to have happen to them what a few happened to our team," wrote Redditor u/MoodyStarGirl. "The cold brew is fine until you taste the foam because it's two pumps of olive oil. you're immediately hit with just olive oil and i wanted to throw up after yeah i do not recommend."

After launching olive oil-infused coffee in Italy, Starbucks is bringing its Oleato line stateside, starting Thursday. He, too, began drinking olive oil alongside his daily coffee and decided that Starbucks should try to mix the two together. The initial Oleato lineup of drinks infuses olive oil into Starbucks' Caffé Latte, Iced Shaken Espresso and cold foam. CNN Business said the olive oil "felt like too much," while the New Yorker said the drink "tasted like a large spoonful of olive oil in coffee." The coffee giant plans to bring the Oleato drinks to Japan, the Middle East and the United Kingdom later this year.
Last month, Starbucks launched a new line of olive oil-infused coffee and espresso drinks in Italy. Starbucks Reserve Roasteries in Chicago, Seattle, and New York will be the first stores to offer the olive oil elixirs. Reserve stores like the chain's new Empire State Building location sell premium coffee and espresso drinks. Dousing your morning brew with olive oil may sound unappetizing to some. The Delish food site said the Oleato Iced Shaken Espresso was a terrific choice for iced coffee fans.
A thief on a bike grabbed my iPhone 14 Pro Max out of my hand Wednesday. It was the second time someone stole my iPhone, which I didn't think would happen again. I didn't feel like insurance was worth the cost, but now think I made an expensive mistake. Then it was gone: My iPhone 14 Pro Max was in the hands of a man on a bike speeding away from me. They attempted to steal all my belongings, including my iPhone 11 Pro Max and MacBook Pro.
Home recipes inspired by Starbucks' most popular drinksI recommend purchasing a moka pot, which is a stove-top or electric coffee maker. Here are some of my favorite at-home recipes, inspired by popular Starbucks drinks (based on a 16-ounce cup size): 1. Add some ice and pour espresso over it. Pour milk in. Heat to desired temperature (I heat mine to 150 degrees) and pour into a coffee mug.

U.S. renters are finally getting a break on their rent, with prices dropping in 11 major markets in January, according to new data by online realtor Redfin. Median asking rent dropped to $1,942 last month, down from a 2022 peak of $2,053. Only four cities posted double-digit rent growth in January 2022, compared with 38 in January 2021. The number of cities with price drops also continues to climb, from just two a year ago to 11 in January. January rent prices for this study are based on 20,000 apartment listings from Rent.com for the 50 largest metro areas in the country.
The inflation rate only dropped slightly in January — down to a year-over-year rate of 6.4%, after posting 6.5% in December. Since food and energy prices are volatile, core inflation is seen as a better indicator of overall inflation trends. While Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell said in a speech last week that "the disinflationary process has begun," he warned that persistently high inflation could stay elevated in 2023. This measure has been described by Powell as the "most important" measure of where inflation is headed in 2023. In Tuesday's report, the cost of "services less energy services" rose by 0.5%, its third straight month of similar gains.
You probably don't need to pay federal taxes if you received state-issued inflation or tax surplus rebates this year, the Internal Revenue Service has concluded. On Friday, the IRS provided guidance that confirms most filers won't have to pay federal taxes, although there are some exceptions. For five other states it's a bit more nuanced — but again, the majority of filers in these states likely won't need to pay federal taxes on their rebates. In Alaska, tax filers won't pay federal taxes on 2022's extra energy-relief payment. If a filer's SALT deduction is larger than it would normally be because of a state's rebate, federal taxes would have to be paid on the difference created by the state's rebate.
