Kids increasingly prefer to zone out for hours watching free short-form videos instead of full-length TV episodes and movies. In April, Nielsen estimated, kids 2 to 11 watched three times as much YouTube as Disney+ content. Kids watching Disney clips on YouTube may have no need for Disney+. 5 spot for kids' entertainment on YouTube in 2023, according to Tubular, a social video analytics company. Kids preferring short-form videos on YouTube over full-length episodes and movies is a problem that Disney doesn't seem to be able to solve.

But the rabbi was Sharon Kleinbaum, the new leader of a predominantly gay synagogue. Officials from various Orthodox Jewish organizations were threatening to boycott the event, and the rabbi was getting hate mail. It was not until 2012 that the congregation was allowed to march. “I never let it upset me,” Rabbi Kleinbaum said.

But the portrayal of trans women as predators was a new innovation that had a huge impact on the horror genre. Andit had a big impact on Jonathan Demme’s “The Silence of the Lambs” in which the terrifying serial killer, Buffalo Bill, is a predatory trans woman (or more precisely, as Jos Truitt has explained, Bill is a transphobic caricature of a trans woman). The danger isn’t from trans women — it’s from heterosexual cis patriarchs — a reality much truer to life than Hitchcock’s fever dream. Perhaps in part for that reason, the director is careful not to make Longlegs trans or gay. It’s not just “Longlegs” which displaces violence onto queer people: Movies like “Psycho” and “Silence of the Lambs” are often acts of aggression aimed by male directors at queer people (and especially at queer women).

Patrol cars used by the New York Police Department will soon bear a new motto, news that made me raise an eyebrow. Three important words — “Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect” — have been on the side of patrol cars since 1996, when this New York City kid was just 9 years old. And the N.Y.P.D.’s decision to drop the old motto — born in an era when the department was at least attempting to solicit the good will of a skeptical public — feels notable. CNN —Italian Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, a former papal ambassador to the United States who became an ultra-conservative critic of Pope Francis, has been excommunicated for schism. As a Vatican diplomat, the archbishop was tasked with serving the pope, which makes his excommunication for schism highly unusual. The Vatican explained Friday that Viganò was excommunicated following an “extrajudicial penal process,” although the archbishop has said he did not “recognize the legitimacy” of the process. “I don’t know what happened,” Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Holy See’s Secretary of State, said recently about the now-excommunicated archbishop. The Vatican said Viganò had been told of the excommunication and that only the Holy See could lift the sanction.
