For Club stock Morgan Stanley, investment banking revenues surged 51% year over year with equity underwriting fees jumping over 56%, and advisory fees increasing over 30% from the year-ago period. Wells Fargo's investment banking revenues, which fall underneath its corporate and investment banking (CIB) division, jumped 38% year over year. "The investments we have been making allowed us to take advantage of the market activity in the quarter with strong performance in investment advisory, trading and investment banking fees." And good news for investors, it doesn't look like the rebound in investment banking is slowing anytime soon.

The attack comes a week before the opening ceremony for the 2024 Paris Olympics. This is the second violent incident against French security agents this week, after a soldier was stabbed on Monday in a Paris train station. Wells Fargo on Friday reported a 9% decline in net interest income, even though its second-quarter earnings and revenue exceeded Wall Street expectations. That was below the $12.12 billion expected by analysts, according to FactSet. The bank said the drop was due to the impact of higher interest rates on funding costs. "We continued to see growth in our fee-based revenue offsetting an expected decline in net interest income," CEO Charlie Scharf said in a statement. Wells Fargo saw net income dip to $4.91 billion in the second quarter, from $4.94 billion during the same quarter a year ago.

Non-interest income increased 12% thanks to higher asset-based fees driven by an increase in market valuations.

CNN —Mark Thompson, the CNN chief executive appointed last year to modernize the news network, unveiled a set of sweeping changes to the iconic outlet Wednesday, announcing plans to build a billion-dollar digital business, experiment with artificial intelligence and overhaul key newsroom structures. Mark Thompson officially started on October 9 as CNN's chief executive and chairman and will also act as the network's editor-in-chief. Thompson, who is widely credited for revitalizing The Times, was appointed CNN chief executive last summer, after Licht’s tumultuous run in the job. Since then, Thompson has spoken consistently about the need to transform CNN’s business but has largely avoided offering specifics. Whether Thompson can successfully create a billion-dollar digital news business at CNN remains to be seen.
