In 1999, after my freshman year in college, I was a counselor at a camp in central Vermont. Camp was where I found my professional calling: Teaching kids to mold clay flowers by hand made me realize I wanted to spend the rest of my life making and teaching art. Somewhere in this outdoor summer utopia — a blend of vaguely Quaker ethos with a communist, hippie, artsy sensibility and a dash of Midwestern kindness — I found my people. Although I was technically hired as a ceramics counselor, I also appointed myself the unofficial photographer of Camp Killooleet. Camp felt magical.

CNN —The director of Rome’s Colosseum has called for an end to concerts at the nearby Circus Maximus, after a performance by US rapper Travis Scott on Monday sparked fears of an earthquake. Italy’s fire service confirmed to CNN that it received “hundreds of calls” from concerned residents who feared there had been an earthquake in the Italian capital. Now, Alfonsina Russo, director of the head of the Colosseum Archeological Park, has called for an end to performances at the Circus Maximus, the ancient Roman chariot-racing and entertainment venue. “The Circus Maximus is a monument. “Rock concerts should be held in stadiums so as not to endanger public safety.”The Circus Maximus, situated at the bottom of the Palatine Hill near the Colosseum, has become a popular concert venue in recent years.

When Travis Scott asked Rome to make some noise at the Circus Maximus on Monday, Rome cheerfully complied. The 60,000-odd spectators jumped so vigorously that some locals panicked, thinking that an earthquake was underway. The concert coincided with the release of Mr. Scott’s chart-topping new album, “Utopia. The show in Rome marked Ye’s first concert appearance after a series of antisemitic remarks on social media and in interviews last year led to his expulsion from social media for a time and the loss of fashion design partnerships. Romans, including those living some distance from the site, took to social media to lament shaking windows, beds and chandeliers.

Ye, the rap star formerly known as Kanye West, on Monday made his first concert appearance after a series of antisemitic remarks on social media and in interviews last year, which led to his alienation from the music industry and loss of lucrative fashion deals with Adidas, Gap and Balenciaga. Ye’s return to the stage came as a guest during a livestreamed album-release concert by Travis Scott at Circus Maximus, the park in central Rome that in ancient times was the site of a giant stadium where chariot races and other entertainment took place. Scott, a protégé of Ye’s, brought his mentor out during a concert to celebrate his chart-topping new album, “Utopia.” With Scott dressed in white and Ye all in black — initially with a hood and mask, which didn’t stay on for long — they performed two Ye songs together: “Praise God,” from his 2021 album “Donda,” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing,” a Kanye West classic from his 2007 album “Graduation.”“There is no ‘Utopia’ without Kanye West,” Scott told the crowd. “There is no Travis Scott without Kanye West. There is no Rome without Kanye West.”

Almost two years ago, the career of the rap star Travis Scott had seemed in doubt after the catastrophe of his Astroworld Festival in Houston, where 10 people were crushed to death and hundreds more were injured. The authorities investigated Scott’s role, but in June prosecutors announced that a grand jury had declined to indict Scott and two festival officials. A number of civil lawsuits against Scott and festival organizers, however, remain pending. That cloud was no deterrent to Scott’s fans, who have sent the rapper’s latest album, “Utopia,” straight to No. That was by far the biggest opening for any hip-hop album this year.

Natasha Root started Fans Utopia, a site where people can buy adult stars' used items. In 2021, I had a dream that I helped my friend, an ex-porn star, sell her breast implants. So I started researching platforms that sold used items from people in the adult industry. We do everything on behalf of the adult stars since they are often so busy traveling and shooting content for work. The payment split depends on the adult star's agreement with us, but they take between 40% and 60% of the sale.

“In the next few years, the main impact of AI on work will be to help people do their jobs more efficiently,” Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said in a blog post recently. Big Tech companies are now rushing to jump on the AI bandwagon, pledging significant investments into new AI-powered tools that promise to streamline work. News outlet CNET had to issue “substantial” corrections earlier this year after experimenting with using an AI tool to write stories. Others like Clarke, the publisher, have tried to combat the fallout from the rise of AI by relying on more AI. “You listen to these AI experts, they go on about how these things are going to do amazing breakthroughs in different fields,” Clarke said.

Mark Zuckerberg bills Threads as a space for kindness — but he's not above using it to ding Elon Musk. Threads arrives as Twitter has another disastrous week. As the Meta chief put it on the new Threads app, the vision is "to create an open and friendly public space for conversation" for 1 billion-plus people. It's a highly calculated move to release a Twitter clone in a week of Twitter chaos. Threads can only be so friendly then if its growth, for now, comes from the conflagration at Twitter.

This spring, while looking for a new apartment, I realized how much change had taken place. I might qualify as someone who has contributed to the gentrification of Bed-Stuy, but I also look like I belong. But I found a rent-stabilized apartment blocks away from my old place. When a new restaurant or business opens in this corner of Bed-Stuy, I wonder: Is it Black-owned? Walk up Lewis Avenue past Peaches on a weekend morning and it’s spilling over with Black and brown customers.

A stroll through the shopping center reminds you that Latin American culture can be monumental, beautiful and heroic. García, 64, told me that he and his brother have operated their stand at Plaza Mexico for a dozen years. Somehow, his Plaza Mexico stand survived the pandemic. In some ways, Plaza Mexico is a Latino version of that story, told by those who were long excluded from what the state has to offer. Here, I’ve seen how a new, American way of being “Latino” is being assembled from contact with many different cultures.
