MEXICO CITY (AP) — Trae Young put on a show for nearly 20,000 fans in the NBA's regular-season game in Mexico City. Young scored 41 points, then fed Dejounte Murray for a go-ahead 3-pointer with 31 seconds left to give the Atlanta Hawks a 120-119 victory over the Orlando Magic on Thursday night. It was the league’s 32nd game in Mexico since 1992, more than any country outside the U.S. and Canada. Mexico has an NBA G League team that had a successful first year playing at the Arena Ciudad the Mexico. Positive feedback from former NBA players who reside in Mexico City might help the city on its bid for a franchise in the future, but for now the only thing certain is more regular season games.

Counsell told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Tuesday the opportunity for a new professional challenge and the proximity of Chicago made this opportunity appealing. PHILADELPHIA—The Arizona Diamondbacks are young and inexperienced. They won just 84 games during the regular season and barely made it to the playoffs. They are one of the few championship-contending teams that can sincerely spout the maxim, “No one believed in us.”Yet the Diamondbacks are heading for the World Series on the back of a playoff run that goes beyond disbelief. They have toppled big names—the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers and now the Philadelphia Phillies—with a team of players that few have heard of, outside of Arizona.

As the National Basketball Association's new season tips off this week, the league is seeing more international interest than ever. The NBA said it expects fans from more than 200 countries to tune in to games in more than 50 languages this season, with interest across international markets increasing significantly from last season. Global business accounts for about 10% of total team and league revenue, according to a person familiar with the matter. A significant factor driving the surge in international interest is the number of international players taking part in the league this season, according to Samantha Engelhardt, the NBA's senior vice president of global strategy and innovation. This season, all 30 NBA teams feature at least one international player, and 15 international players on opening-night rosters have been NBA All-Stars.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Zac Gallen settled down after a shaky start and Arizona’s bullpen stepped up at the very end, helping the Diamondbacks sweep their NL Wild Card Series against the Milwaukee Brewers with a 5-2 victory in Game 2 on Wednesday night. Just two years after suffering through a 110-loss season, Arizona moved into the franchise's first NL Division Series since 2017. The Diamondbacks will take on the NL West champion Dodgers in the opener of their best-of-five series on Saturday in Los Angeles. The NL Central champion Brewers have dropped nine of their last 10 playoff games, a stretch that started with their Game 7 home loss to the Dodgers in the 2018 NL Championship Series. Brandon Woodruff had been regarded as the Brewers’ likely Game 2 starter until a shoulder injury shut him down for this series.
