On TV, he looks ready to burst through your screen — which I find unsettling, but his fans really seem to enjoy. Then there’s Joe Biden, whose urgent challenge in the high-stakes presidential debate on Thursday is precisely this: how to be old on TV without seeming old — or worse, elderly. Mr. Biden is an effective president, but most people don’t watch how someone looks, sounds and moves on TV and think purely about his policy record. CNN —An Italian animation company has agreed to pay the US Treasury Department $538,000 for “apparent violations” of US sanctions against North Korea by doing business with a North Korean state-owned animation studio, the department said Wednesday. The outsourcing contract made explicit reference to North Korea, the department said. Mondo’s use of the US financial system to send money to North Korea triggered the Treasury investigation and the threat of fines. Along with Russia, North Korea is among the most heavily sanctioned governments in the world. But the North Korean animation industry has provided an important source of revenue for Pyongyang, according to experts.

CNN —Actor Spencer Milligan, best known for playing Rick Marshall in 1970s kids’ TV show “Land of the Lost,” has died at age 86. Milligan was born September 10, 1937, in Oak Park, Illinois, and died on April 18, according an obituary posted on the website of a funeral home in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, where he lived. It was during this period that he played his most famous role, appearing in 30 episodes of “Land of the Lost” from 1974 to 1975.
