MIDLAND, Mich. — The closing days of Michigan’s midterm elections for governor and other statewide offices have erupted into a scramble, with tightening polls, hostile tones and dire warnings from both parties. “As the state of Michigan goes, so goes the whole country, and as the United States of America goes, so goes the globe,” Democratic Gov. “It’s really about power for them,” Dixon said Wednesday night at a rally here in Midland. “I will always follow the Constitution,” Dixon told reporters after her rally in Midland. “So we got six days, six more days.
Already fighting from behind, Democrats' chances of keeping the House have slipped further in the last month. In a letter to Democratic colleagues on Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called on House members to make a point of defending their record on crime. Republican groups including Citizens for Sanity, headed by former aides to Trump, poured money in recent weeks into ads criticizing Democrats as weak on crime and illegal immigration. In a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Tuesday, respondents were twice as likely to list crime, rather than abortion rights, as the country's biggest problem. Shield PAC, a Third Way-affiliated political action committee, launched ads on Monday promoting the law enforcement records of Virginia's Elaine Luria and Minnesota's Angie Craig, both endangered Democrats.
LONDON, Oct 27 (Reuters) - Germany, considered Europe's most reliable debtor, is having trouble selling its bonds, just as it seeks billions to tackle the energy crisis. Hit hard by its over-reliance on Russian energy, Germany intends to borrow particularly large amounts in the coming years, with Parliament last week voting to suspend the constitutional debt brake that limits new borrowing. France's finance agency, in contrast, issued 10 billion euros of medium term bonds on Oct. 20 into strong demand. VOLATILITY HURTS AUCTIONSThe uncertainty around borrowing and QT has increased volatility in euro zone bond markets, already rocked by the knock-on effects from Britain's now-scrapped plans for large unfunded tax cuts. Volatility is deterring the banks that act as dealers for German bonds from bidding in debt auctions, Tammo Diemer, head of the country's finance agency, said at an event on Tuesday.
Hard-to-access places like the Arctic Circle and Galapagos Islands are bucket-list travel hot spots. These well-off wanderlusters have helped create a travel-industry boom, with pent-up demand pushing bucket-list travel into this year's shoulder seasons. American Express Travel's 2022 Global Travel Trends report, which used polling data collected in early February 2022, confirms the move toward bucket-list travel this year. Quality time with loved ones matters above allBut not all bucket-list travel experiences need to be in far-flung corners of the world. Insider spoke with agents and Hollywood insiders about what new series Netflix, HBO Max, and more streamers are looking for. Netflix wants more "Emily in Paris" and a major reality talent competition show like "The Voice." As the streaming wars continue, developing shows that appeal to new subscribers is key. Programming choices, from the company's decision to scrap feature film "Batgirl" to paring down its kids and animated TV library, have been affected. Apple TV+ is known for being a big spender, while Amazon Studios recently plunked down the largest sum in history on a single TV series with its $1 billion bet on "Lord of the Rings" prequel "The Rings of Power."
I lost touch with the day-to-day of my family's finances after having two kids. I have more agency now, and my husband and I are having great weekly conversations about our money. Sure, I was well-versed in our investment strategy, long-term financial goals, and credit usage, but that's about it. We both check balances daily, make sure bills are paid, and ensure we're on track with our monthly investment contributions. We started having weekly money meetings, making sure we were on track with our financial obligations and spending.

Changing your mindset is crucialCertified financial planner Kyle Newell reminds clients that the savings they worked so hard to amass is there to help them live well in retirement. And he also advises clients to go easy on themselves and view their first year in retirement as a learning experience when it comes to spending. “You really need to know ‘What are my assets and spending patterns and how do I harmonize the two?’” John said.
Mourners offer flowers at the altar outside Nippon Budokan Hall which will host a state funeral for former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo, Japan September 27, 2022. REUTERS/Issei KatoTOKYO, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Two months after he was assassinated, Shinzo Abe is still stirring controversy, evidence of how the polarising former premier's legacy is shaping Japanese politics on everything from defence to monetary policy. Japan's longest-serving prime minister was a divisive figure who was dogged by scandals. That's a reflection of how Abe transformed both the LDP and Japan's policy landscape, experts say. That could mean more of the ultra-loose policy and fiscal stimulus set in motion under "Abenomics".

Months of surging prices have seen governments roll out measures to curb retail power prices, slash energy taxes and give subsidies to bill-payers. If the cash governments have earmarked to nationalise, bail out or provide loans to ailing energy utilities was included, then EU governments have spent closer to 450 billion euros, the think-tank said. "Governments with more fiscal space will inevitably better manage the energy crisis by outcompeting their neighbours for limited energy resources over winter months." Germany, the EU's biggest economy, is by far the biggest spender in the bloc - setting aside 100 billion euros, versus 59 billion euros in Italy, or 200 million euros in Estonia, for example. The EU last week proposed bloc-wide measures to respond to sky-high energy prices, in a bid to overlay the patchwork of national responses with a coordinated reaction.

My husband's a spender and I'm a saver, and that dynamic has caused fights in our 14 years together. We've developed three rules that help us discuss money and build wealth, starting with honesty. But for the majority of us, the straightforward route to sharing life's burdens with our partners means sharing everything. And that's the thing about sharing finances: Everyone feels bad all the time. Being a saver means my husband is always wary of potential financial hardships.

I'm investing little by littleInstead of spending $50 on drinks here, or $70 on dinner there (you guys, city life can be expensive), I'm buying stocks and index funds. For instance, in April 2020, I bought about $2,000 worth of index funds in three transactions.

Here are eight reasons why couples should consider combining finances, and why this idea isn't as old-fashioned as you may think. The average interest rate for a savings account is 0.09% APY, though there are many online banks with savings programs that have a much higher interest rate. Communicate more up front about your financial goals and values with your current partner to make sure you're both on the same page." Our experts choose the best products and services to help make smart decisions with your money (here's how). My husband is a saver and I'm a spender, but in almost a decade of marriage, we've come up with five strategies that help us balance those impulses. We keep a budget and designate a certain amount of spending money for each month, and we review our bank statements and credit card bills together monthly. It takes effort, communication, and help from the best financial advisor, but we've figured out a way to make it work. I'll update him on freelance projects I'm working on and how much money I'm expecting to come in, and he'll highlight (sometimes to my chagrin) ways we've overspent in the last month.
