A class-action lawsuit filed Tuesday alleges that the crypto platform FTX and former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried violated Florida law, misled customers and cost investors billions of dollars in damages. Garrison says he lost money after the crypto exchange was forced to stop customers from withdrawing funds. Also named in the lawsuit is Larry David, the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" star who appeared in a Super Bowl commercial for FTX. The House committee investigating the Capitol insurrection said it is weighing its options after former President Donald Trump failed to comply with a subpoena calling on him to appear for a closed-door deposition on Monday. In a statement, the committee's chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and vice chair Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., said Trump was "hiding" days after he filed a lawsuit asking a federal court to deem the subpoena for his testimony invalid. “Donald Trump orchestrated a scheme to overturn a presidential election and block the transfer of power. He is obligated to provide answers to the American people," Thompson and Cheney said in their joint statement. The panel earlier this month gave Trump extra time to provide documents after saying it hadn't received the requested records from him.
The House committee investigating the attack of Jan. 6, 2021 had unanimously issued a subpoena for the Republican former president to appear on or about Nov. 14. Lawmakers had also extended through this week their initial Nov. 4 deadline for Trump to turn over any related documentation. In a Nov. 9 letter to the panel attached to the lawsuit, Trump's attorneys said he would "consider" whether providing written responses "would be appropriate." The letter said Trump "voluntarily directed a reasonable search for documents in his possession" but it "found no documents responsive to this request." The panel has not said how it will proceed if Trump disregards the subpoena request.
Trump's legal team filed suit Friday against the Jan. 6 committee to block him from testifying. The former president's lawyers argue Congress does not have the authority to subpoena a president. "But the Subpoena issued by the Committee to 'President Donald J. Trump' does not arise from an impeachment inquiry," the filing reads. "For the reasons explained below, the Committee lacks authority to issue the Subpoena and, in any event, President Trump is not required to comply." Trump's legal team and representatives for his post-presidential office did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump speaks at a rally to support Republican candidates ahead of midterm elections, in Dayton, Ohio, U.S. November 7, 2022. Former President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit Friday night to avoid cooperating with a subpoena from the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. The House select committee voted unanimously on the subpoena and is demanding Trump's testimony under oath as well as records relevant to the probe into the attack. It will be difficult for the panel to secure Trump's testimony before then. Trump's lawsuit was filed in the Southern District of Florida and has not yet been assigned to a judge.
Former President Donald Trump described in great detail Thursday night how he purportedly delivered a 2018 election win to now-Gov. Ron DeSantis by sending FBI agents to stop "ballot theft" in a major Florida county. Her comment on Twitter was in response to Trump's statement about the Florida elections that year. “The Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office has no documentation of any federal law enforcement presence during the 2018 elections,” Ivan Castro, spokesman for the Broward County Supervisor of Elections, told the newspaper. "We conclude that the November 2018 election was not efficiently and effectively conducted.
Dolan has not pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy, but three other Oath Keepers have. Dolan testified Tuesday that before the Jan. 6 attack, he was drinking — often alone and in his garage — and getting sucked into online conspiracy theories. "I think my biggest trouble is trying to convince myself to say good bye," Dolan wrote in the message to other Florida Oath Keepers. Five members of the Oath Keepers, including Rhodes, are on trial for seditious conspiracy. The government introduced photos of Dolan entering the Capitol, and Dolan testified that he was chanting “treason!” along with other members of the pro-Trump mob.
A judge's order approving a special master to review documents the FBI took from former President Donald Trump's Florida home is a deeply flawed and unworkable mess, legal experts told NBC News on Tuesday. Rosenzweig agreed, calling it "absurd" that a special master should be searching out potential executive privilege issues. "I don't know how a special master would proceed, which means inevitable delay and dispute," he said. "I don’t think the appointment of a special master is going to hold up. Saltzburg, who has worked as a special master, said the reason judges generally want special masters "is they want a review to be done quickly and thoroughly, and they don’t have the time to do it themselves."
But the company was recently found liable for using songs in TikTok videos without a license. But over the last year, the company has been embroiled in a lawsuit around its use of music in TikTok videos. The early days of companies blindly jumping into TikTok music trends are over. The takeaway, Elton said, is that this lawsuit should never have happened: "Bang Energy should have known better." "With a few simple inquiries, they could have easily found out that the TikTok music licensing model would not cover their intended use of the music."
