Stormy weatherBoeing’s boss, Dave Calhoun, will testify before a Senate panel on Tuesday, as yet another whistle-blower has come forward, alleging the planemaker was negligent in tracking hundreds of faulty parts. Calhoun will step down by December, but that hasn’t stopped lawmakers, investors and customers from hammering the company. Now, Boeing is reportedly struggling to find a successor, highlighting the scale of the challenge to fix an iconic American company. Calhoun will say that the culture is still “far from perfect.” He will be grilled on a range of issues hanging over the company, from multiple whistle-blower accusations to the events leading up to the midair blowout of a door plug on an Alaska Airlines 737 Max 9 jet in January.

But an Air New Zealand plane had a very different reason for making an unplanned stop yesterday – they were picking up the country’s prime minister after his government aircraft broke down. New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and a group of prominent business leaders were en route to Tokyo for a summit with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. They were traveling on a Royal New Zealand Defense Force plane, which stopped in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea to refuel. Luckily, one of the 50-some business leaders in the delegation was Air New Zealand (ANZ) CEO Greg Foran. Coincidentally, Luxon, who was elected in 2023, spent seven years as the CEO of Air New Zealand before getting into politics.

In an ordinary industrial building off a busy Orange County street, a Seussian contraption, nearly 100 feet long, clattered to life. The room filled with the hum and squeaks of belts and machinery. Like passengers on a dark amusement ride, bundles of colorful magazine pages, printed a week earlier, began a wild, circuitous journey, through tunnels and up ramps, that lasted a few minutes. The long edge of each new 130-page sheaf was dipped into a pool of melting glue, then dropped into a U-shaped cover. After drying during a series of slow corkscrews, the new magazine’s edges were chopped smooth by guillotines and emerged through an opening.

To the Editor:Re “The Beauty of Embracing Aging,” by Charles M. Blow (column, June 6):I admire Mr. Blow’s elegiac paean to growing old, especially as my own experience has been quite different. One day I am filled with gratitude for all the material and social resources from which I have benefited. Sociologists tell me that some who reach old old age experience a calming withdrawal from the kinds of complicated emotions marking the start of my ninth decade. Till then, I’m holding on tight, still thankful that the exhilarating, sometimes scary ride is not yet over. Marion Marechal addresses supporters of her party, Reconquest, alongside party president Eric Zemmour, left, on Sunday. In his statement on X, formerly Twitter, he refuted Marechal’s accusations that he had sunk a deal with National Rally. The fact of Ciotti’s endorsement, even if rejected by others in his traditionalist party, indicates how far National Rally has moved into mainstream politics.

The spotlight has seemingly shifted in the past year toward companies going to market, hoping to ride on the coattails of India's growth story. Growing foreign listingsThe allure of India's stock markets has trickled to companies beyond its shores — with foreign entities eyeing a share of its growth. Such listings add strength to India's markets, says M&G Investment's Asian Equities Portfolio Manager Vikas Pershad. The optimism on India's IPO boom is sometimes marred by concerns over elevated valuations of its stock market — and whether it is headed toward a bubble. "When we look at India, we see continued economic and earnings per share growth and higher levels of profitability," Dorson from Global X told CNBC's Inside India.
