As a global leader in digital payments, Visa has 4.2 billion credit and payment cards in circulation across more than 200 countries. Through its advanced transaction processing network, VisaNet, the company facilitates payment authorization, clearing, and settlement, and it is one of the most remarkable and consistent growth stories around — along with fellow payment processing company Mastercard. The following chart illustrates its remarkably consistent growth since the pandemic plunge (which naturally suspended considerable economic activity). While a 30 P/E is higher than the market's, the S & P trades closer to 26 times earnings; Visa should trade at a premium. The ability for consumer spending growth to continue apace is limited, so presumably, topline growth will slow somewhat.

Tobacco product use among middle and high school students has dropped to a 25-year low, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Thursday. Female students reported the biggest decline in use across the board, and Hispanic students also reported a drop in use of any tobacco product. Evidence-based strategies, including price increases, media campaigns and smoke-free policies, are likely part of what caused tobacco product use to drop, according to the agencies. E-cigarettes continue to be the most used among students who reported tobacco product use, at 5.9%, but nicotine pouches are now the second-most commonly used tobacco product, at 1.8%, followed by cigarettes at 1.4%. Zyn was the most-popular nicotine pouch brand, at 68.7%, compared with the next most-popular brand On at 14.2%.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — When schools here reopen for the first time since Hurricane Helene unleashed a frightening deluge on western North Carolina, teachers won’t simply pick up where they left off in their lesson plans. While all Asheville City Schools students and staff members have been accounted for, they are grieving the deaths of other members of their community. “We’re not going to be able to just jump right into academics,” Asheville City Schools chief of staff Kim Dechant said. New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore was pulled over by Providence, R.I., police early Wednesday morning and apparently wasn’t pleased with how things went down. ET and cited for driving with an expired registration and plate cover violations, according to a Providence police report. Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo confirmed Wednesday the team is “aware of the situation” and that he spoke to Barmore earlier that morning. The defense has struggled without the 25-year-old defensive tackle this season and is allowing 358.8 yards per game, 25th in the NFL.
