Hotel prices are exploding. As the owner of Destination Europe, she is sending “record numbers” of clients to the continent this year. There’s been such a huge demand for travel in the past three years, and lots of places are pushing up prices.”Is summer in Europe already a washout? Socrates Baltagiannis/picture alliance/Getty ImagesData from Hotel Monitor, American Express Global Business Travel’s annual analysis of worldwide hotel rates, backs his theory up. His prediction appears to be coming true: although the Amex GBT analysis predicted a 11% spike in Paris hotel rates this year, so far they have only risen 8%.

"We think the market was ignoring and underappreciating what utilities can accomplish," Travis Miller, energy and utilities strategist for Morningstar, told CNBC. Eric Holcomb announced that Microsoft will be constructing a $1 billion data center in La Porte, Indiana. Another name that is due to see a boost from AI data center growth is WEC Energy. The tech giant already has a data center that is under construction in the area, which is expected to open in 2026. Bison have injured more people in Yellowstone than any other animal, a national park official said. Last weekend, an 83-year-old woman from South Carolina was gored by a bison that was defending its space, park officials said. It was the latest in a string of tragic events at the park involving visitors and bison, which are social animals that live in herds. In April, a 40-year-old man was injured after harassing a herd of bison and kicking one of the animals in the leg. Last July, a 47-year-old woman sustained significant injuries after being charged and gored by a bison.

It was spring, and I wanted to do something spontaneous, so I asked her to cut my long hair. I had moved to Kosovo, where every decision had to be approved by my husband. My husband doesn't care what I do with my hair as long as I keep it out of his food. To this day, I regret not going, but I trust that my husband understands his culture better than I do. Adjusting hasn't always been easy, but after three years, I have grown to accept and feel comfortable in this culture.

“Art is one of our oldest creations (humans invented paint long before the wheel), one of the earliest means of communication (we drew long, long, long, long before we could write), and one of our most universal urges,” she wrote. But when you watch artists making art, it is a physical experience. Different art forms affect the brain and body in different ways. Just as when we are prescribed medications, (it’s true that) types, doses and durations of art work differently for different people. And just one art experience per month can extend your life by 10 years.

Michael M. Santiago | Getty ImagesInvestors likely will have to sweat out a summer during which it looks increasingly improbable that the Federal Reserve will be cutting interest rates. A batch of stronger-than-expected economic data coupled with fresh commentary from policymakers is pointing away from any near-term policy easing. "The market takes every bit of data and translates it to how the Fed sees it. So if the Fed is data dependent, the market is probably more data dependent." Put it together, and there's not much reason for the Fed to be easing policy here.

The artist Hank Willis Thomas is pointing to one of the images: of two well-dressed, neatly coiffed men standing atop a cliff. "She's Somewhat of a Drag," a 1959 advertisement Thomas repurposed in his series "Unbranded: A Century of White Women." Across his work, Thomas reframes iconic and mundane imagery to connect viewers to historical moments of resistance and reshape our understanding of who counts in society. Here, a pro-football player appears to face off with an enslaved cotton picker, in Thomas' work "From Cain't See in the Mornin' Til Cain't See at Night." His body of work work reflects the observation — and, perhaps, a warning — that we have moved toward “existing in a society of branded consciousness."

Jennifer Forness spent last Mother’s Day in tears. For Mother’s Day this year, Ms. Forness, 36, and five girlfriends who are also mothers, are planning to check into Wild Dunes Resort, a hotel about 16 miles east of Charleston, for an overnight stay. “And we are going to have drinks.”Mother’s Day has long come with connotations that mothers spend it with the very people who made them so — and it usually involves brunch, cards and flowers (or floral prints). Yet some mothers are shedding those expectations and doing whatever they want — including shedding their families.

The 2024 Subaru Ascent Touring from the driver's seat. Benjamin Zhang/Business InsiderThe Subaru Ascent delivers a pleasant and reassuring driving experience. The continuously variable transmission is the weakest point in Ascent's driving experience and its drive train. The noise, reminiscent of a dying torque converter on a traditional automatic, disappears once the vehicle reaches normal operating temperature. With that said, Subaru's Lineartronic unit is one of the most capable CVTs on the market and is able to provide a serviceable approximation of a traditional automatic transmission.
