Amazon launched the Amp live radio app earlier this year with A-list stars like Nicki Minaj. Earlier this fall, executives inside Amazon's live radio service, Amp, were dreaming about bringing on Taylor Swift as the next big name on the platform. The live radio app launched in March, touting a partnership with Minaj, who hosted a live call-in and music shows with her fans. An Amazon spokesperson said those figures were inaccurate but declined to specify how many monthly active users Amp has. "We've continued to see success since launching the product and are optimizing for product growth as we release more features."

Elon Musk began to terminate Twitter staffers last night, insiders told us. Last night Elon Musk's Twitter broke its silence with employees and sent a memo to staffers confirming that much-anticipated layoffs were happening the following day (so, today). But staffers told us the terminations started shortly after that email went out. Workers suddenly started to get locked out of services like Slack and email around 8 p.m. PT on Thursday night, multiple employees told Insider. Citing an "unusual macro-economic environment," Amazon told staff it'd put a pause on new corporate hires.

CNN —If you don’t feel old yet, just wait: Sophia Grace, the adorable dancing toddler from “Ellen,” is going to be a mom. Sophia Grace Brownlee, who became famous as a child for her exuberant music covers and frequent appearances on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” alongside her cousin, is expecting her first child, she announced in a YouTube video on Saturday. Now 19, the content creator is 21 weeks pregnant, she said in her YouTube video. “I’m sure a lot of you are going to be very shocked, because it probably was quite unexpected,” she continued. I’ve gotten used to it now and I’m super, super, happy about it.”She added that she knows the gender of the baby and will reveal it to her followers at a later date.
Now, amid the recent controversies surrounding the rapper, this college professor sees value in launching another course on Ye. He taught his first two Ye-inspired courses, titled The Politics of Kanye West: Black Genius and Sonic Aesthetics, at Washington University in St. Louis starting in 2017. But unlike his previous ones, this class will be divided into three parts, “the old Kanye, the new Kanye, and the who Kanye,” and examine Ye’s recent behavior. “The course has never, ever been about Kanye,” McCune said. If the University of Rochester’s college curriculum committee approves the new Ye course, he plans to teach it during the spring or fall semester of 2023.
Becky G was just 14 years old when she signed her first record deal. In 2016, Becky started releasing songs in Spanish, finding a wider audience and recognition. “I use the word collaboration a lot, because to me, that’s where the magic happens. 1 spot on the Hot Latin Songs chart. That’s really where I tried to focus a lot of my energy and make an impact.
CNN —The bizarre and salacious nature of “The Vow,” with its intensely detailed look at the Nxivm cult, made the docuseries an understandable sensation, so much so that HBO came back for more. While “The Vow Part Two” gives viewers a front-row seat of the federal trial against founder Keith Raniere, it’s a more fragmented exercise that feels unduly stretched over six parts. Despite Nxivm’s obsession with loyalty, it’s a good reminder that what happens in Vegas seldom stays there. “Allison is a victim who was sent out to do something that she believed was good because she believed Keith was good,” Salzman explains. Warts and all, the totality of “The Vow,” including the earlier episodes, makes for fairly intoxicating viewing.
CNN —Nicki Minaj has a message for the Recording Academy after they moved her song “Super Freaky Girl” from a rap category to a pop category for award consideration. “I have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long as we r ALL being treated FAIRLY. If SFG (‘Super Freaky Girl’) has 2B moved out RAP then so does Big Energy!” Minaj wrote in a series of tweets, referring to the Latto song. “If ‘Super Freaky Girl’ is pop, then so is ‘Big Energy.’ If you move ‘Super Freaky Girl’ out of rap and put it in pop, do the same with ‘Big Energy.’ Right? The Recording Academy has not publicly stated the reasoning for placing “Super Freaky Girl,” which samples “Super Freak” by Rick James, in the pop category.

Rolling Loud New York is scheduled to take place at Citi Field in Queens, New York this weekend, but three drill rappers initially expected to perform have been axed from the lineup. The NYPD’s actions mirror what happened at Rolling Loud New York in 2019, when the department banned 22Gz and fellow drill rapper Pop Smoke from hitting the stage. Neither the NYPD, Mayor Adams or Rolling Loud have released an official statement. However, the organizers of the festival graciously agreed to pay Sha Ek for the canceled performance. If Rolling Loud wants to put you guys on, then they won’t have a permit.’But Rolling Loud was like, ‘We’re still going to honor the payment.
