Matt Escalante is the new VP of Brach's seasonal division, best known for its candy corn. The company knows its top treat is controversial — but it dominates a nearly $90 million market. AdvertisementIf you've eaten candy corn sometime in the last century, there's a good chance it came from Brach's. The confection giant is best known for cornering the candy corn market, churning out 28 million pounds of the candle-like candy each year and raking in $75 million of an $88.5 million candy corn market in 2022, according to data from the consumer research firm Circana. And while the candy corn market stays booming, the product itself — with its waxy texture, neon coloring, and saccharine aftertaste — is notoriously polarizing.

As she unravels the conspiracy behind the aircraft attack, she also has to contend with Vice President Grace Penn (an excellent Allison Janney) showing up in London. CIA Director Bill Burns was in Cairo on Thursday for discussions on Gaza and Lebanon, including a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The US envoys also met Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant to discuss “security arrangements” related to northern Israel, Lebanon and the return of hostages from Gaza. That makes it likely the war in Gaza will continue shadowing the US contest in its final days. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks at the opening of the 25th Parliament session in Jerusalem on October 28, 2024. Trump's plans could mean tax hikes for lower earners; Harris' proposals would target higher earners. Trump has proposed extending his slew of tax cuts from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 — also known as the "Trump tax cut." Comcast is thinking about separating or spinning off NBCUniversal's cable networks. NBCUniversal's cable networks aren't growing anymore. That vision never materialized, in part because the media world's attention shifted from traditional pay TV to streaming, which devalued cable networks. The small media company wants to be the vehicle for a cable network rollup, CNBC reported in 2022. But even if Starz doesn't achieve its vision of a cable network rollup, it's possible a private equity firm may have interest in harvesting a group of cable networks for cash.

Never before had a team rallied to win the World Series after losing the first three games. CNN —One of the driest months in United States history is coming to a close after causing the worst drought in more than 20 years in parts of the East as temperatures soar well above average there. As of October 25, the average precipitation across the Lower 48 was less than an inch. Only five months in the 129 years of records have ended with less than an inch of average precipitation over the Lower 48. Flash drought happens when drought conditions increase quickly, rather than over a multi-month or yearly timeframe, according to NOAA. It’s the state’s worst drought level since 2002.

While the hardware sales are certainly profitable, they pale in comparison to the profitability of Apple's Services. It's impossible to do consistently, and that's why Jim Cramer always says "own, don't trade" Apple stock. During the reported quarter, Apple returned over $29 billion to shareholders, including $3.8 billion in dividends and equivalents and another $25 billion via the repurchase of 112 million shares. Though Services sales missed the mark, gross income managed to outpace expectations thanks to significant year-over-year margin expansion. The growing installed base of active devices is of course translating into strong engagement with Apple's services.

Census data released on October 17 indicates that New York recorded the highest rate of people moving out of all 50 states. Business Insider calculated each state's net moving rate by comparing the number of people who moved into and out of each state per 1,000 people. The states people move out of the mostOf all 50 states, New York ranks last with a net moving rate of -9.23. But because of its larger population and the greater number of movers into the Golden State, California's net migration rate lands right after Louisiana's. North Dakota — which has about 780,000 residents to New York's 20 million — had the highest net migration rate at 17.55.

I do think that seeing a woman on the ballot will, hopefully, encourage more women to vote, even if they don't vote for Harris. At the time, I thought it was going to be a landslide, like 'We're about to have our first woman president.' I don't think everybody in the U.S. will ever be ready for a woman president, but I don't think everybody in the U.S. was ready for a Black president either. Even if Kamala wins, I don't think everybody in the U.S. is ready for a woman president, just like they weren't ready for a Black president. I think Harris is just bringing a lot of new people into the process who haven't necessarily felt included before.
