After hiking one mile in the park with her son one day, she realized she felt peaceful afterward. She ran one mile a day for a monthA few years later, Brown got bored with walking and wanted to try running. She challenged herself to run one mile daily for a month, only running on the treadmill in her house.

CNN —Zimbabwe has authorized a mass slaughter of elephants to feed citizens left hungry by its worst drought in decades. With nearly half of the country’s population facing the risk of acute hunger, “we are targeting to cull 200 elephants,” Tinashe Farawo, a spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority, told CNN on Monday. The move follows a decision in Namibia to cull elephants and other wild animals to relieve food insecurity fueled by a prolonged drought. Zimbabwe is home to more than 84,000 elephants, Farawo said, around double its “capacity of 45,000,” he added. At least 31 people have died in Zimbabwe this year as a result of conflict between humans and wildlife, local media reported.

Growing up, I remember my parents using coupons and rain checks, and comparing supermarket ads to find the cheapest options. This is in stark contrast to the way I parent, where my son is an active learner. Related storiesI'm teaching my kids financial literacyI learned minimally about financial literacy but was determined to teach my kids more; I purchased a worksheet by "Teach Kids Money" to teach my son about delayed gratification. Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that causes a person's breathing to repeatedly stop and start throughout the night. If it goes untreated, sleep apnea can cause fatigue and lead to more serious health issues like heart problems, hypertension and Type 2 diabetes. Apple's sleep apnea detection feature marks the company's latest attempt to position its wearables as a cheaper, simpler alternative to many existing health-care tests and devices. To get evaluated for sleep apnea, for instance, patients typically participate in an at-home test or an in-lab test where they're monitored overnight. The at-home sleep apnea test from Sleep Doctor costs $189, for example.

Private brands — also called store brands and private-label brands — of foods and beverages have shared shelf space with national brands for years. Customer shopping habits are changing for goodIn the past, the value proposition of private brands was driven primarily by lower prices. But consumer attitudes are evolving, according to a recent survey by the Food Industry Association, which represents both food retailers and producers. And 46% said they expect to buy private brands somewhat or much more, compared to 27% saying that for national brands. "In the U.S., the market for private brands as an industry to eclipse national brands is not something we'll see," Baker said.

Lawyers for Washington state will have past grocery chain mergers – and their negative consequences – in mind when they go to court to block a proposed merger between Albertsons and Kroger. Albertsons and Kroger own more than 300 grocery stores in the state and control more than half of grocery sales there. They are trying to get the case dismissed, arguing a state court isn’t the proper venue to consider a nationwide ban. Albertsons and Kroger insist that their plan, including the sale of stores to C&S, will lower grocery prices and preserve competition. In 2016, Albertsons acquired a Haggen supermarket and then promptly closed an Albertsons store about a mile away in Birchwood.

Stouffer's is exiting the freezer aisle and taking on Kraft Heinz with its new shelf-stable mac and cheese. The average American consumer eats mac and cheese 22 times a year, trailing only pizza in its frequency, according to Moe. Out of those 22 occasions, the mac and cheese comes from a box about 70% of the time. To start, under the name Stouffer's Supreme, the brand will offer two variations on boxed mac and cheese: a classic cheddar and a three-cheese version made with cheddar, gouda and parmesan. Moe said the cheddar is a "sibling, not identical twin" of its frozen mac and cheese, while the three-cheese option is a "cousin."

I was an immigrant child, and growing up in the UK in an Albanian family wasn't easy. What strength training does for your mind and body is profound; it's so empowering. It was good for SEO but contradicted our message and ethos, which is that strength training is about more than just how your body looks.

Antimicrobial resistance happens when pathogens like bacteria and fungi develop the ability to evade the medications used to kill them. A death attributable to antimicrobial resistance was directly caused by it, while a death associated with AMR may have another cause that was exacerbated by the antimicrobial resistance. For this combination – the antibiotic methicillin and the bacteria S. aureus – the number of attributable deaths nearly doubled from 57,200 in 1990 to 130,000 in 2021. The researchers estimated that, in 2050, the number of global deaths attributable to antimicrobial resistance could reach 1.9 million, and those associated with antimicrobial resistance could reach 8.2 million. Strathdee saw firsthand the effects that antimicrobial resistance can have on health when her husband nearly died from a superbug infection.

Over the last year, a growing number of cinnamon products have been recalled in the U.S. due to high levels of lead. That prompted Consumer Reports to test brands such as Badia, McCormick and Morton & Bassett, along with smaller brands, across 17 mainstream and niche grocery stores. It found high levels of lead in 12 products, with levels reaching 3.5 parts per million. Paras cinnamon powder had the most lead, according to Consumer Reports, containing 3.52 ppm. The FDA has wound down some of its response efforts to its cinnamon applesauce investigation but will continue to monitor other products in stores for high lead levels.

The Trump campaign and its allies have spent more than $38 million replaying that soundbite almost 70,000 times in campaign advertisements since Harris became the Democratic nominee, looking to capitalize on persistent voter concerns about the economy and blunt Harris’ turn-the-page messaging by yoking her to President Joe Biden’s record. “Everyday prices are too high – food, rent, gas, back-to-school clothes,” Harris says in the clip featured in the ad. Last week, Harris’ campaign launched a series of ads on her economic pitch, specifically tailored to key swing states. In addition, her campaign has spent more than $10 million airing an ad in which Harris says, “You want lower prices and lower taxes.
