CNN —The Israeli Supreme Court issued a ruling on Tuesday ordering the government to draft ultra-Orthodox Jews into the military. Since Israel’s founding, ultra-Orthodox Jews have been exempt from mandatory military service. Some do, but far fewer than most Israeli Jews. Technically, the military service exemption applied to young men who were actively studying at a yeshiva. In essence, the court said that the ultra-Orthodox could not be treated differently from other Israeli Jews.

Jerusalem CNN —Israel’s Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the government to draft ultra-Orthodox Jews into the military, delivering a blow to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that has the potential to unravel his ruling coalition. Ultra-Orthodox Jews view religious study as fundamental to the preservation of Judaism, as important to Israel’s defense as the military. Netanyahu’s defense minister, Yoav Gallant, has publicly criticized Netanyahu’s attempt to exempt Haredi Jews. This is not the first time the Supreme Court has struck down the Haredi exemption. Among those regularly taking aspirin, 89% reported taking a low-dose aspirin, according to the survey, while 11% indicated they take regular strength aspirin, which makes their risk of excessive bleeding even higher. The other alarming aspect is that many individuals are taking aspirin without the guidance of a healthcare provider,” Montgomery said. CNN —Simone Manuel claimed a tight victory in the women’s 50-meter freestyle at the US Olympic swimming trials on Sunday, edging out Gretchen Walsh by 0.02 seconds. Manuel, a five-time Olympic medalist, recorded a time of 24.13 seconds at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium, almost half a second faster than her qualifying time. Having already earned a spot at this year’s Paris Olympics as a relay swimmer, the victory means that Manuel will also contest an individual event at her third Games. CNN —Authorities on the Spanish island of Tenerife continue to search for British teenager Jay Slater, who has been missing for a week after attending a music festival. Slater, 19, went missing after attending the NRG festival in the south of the island, and was last heard from between 8 and 9 a.m. local time (3-4 a.m. The campaign was organized by a friend of Slater’s named Lucy Mae, who said she had left the festival before Slater on Sunday. A search-and-rescue team looks for Slater near where he was last seen in Tenerife. Slater’s disappearance comes after a spate of tourists going missing in sweltering temperatures in Greece.
