But some cities, like New Orleans and Las Vegas, have strict ride-share e-scooter bans. "We operate in around 400 cities and they had the highest fine rate of any city in the world that we operate in. Other cities like Washington, D.C., see the e-scooter ride-share option as a valuable addition to their transportation infrastructure.

Why It MattersWith more than 200 locations across New York, the city’s public library systems are beloved as a community resource and a foundation of critical priorities like childhood reading and providing access to the internet. “This investment is an investment in the people of New York City,” he said in a statement. What’s NextLeaders in the City Council have vowed to fight the mayor’s cuts, with a budget deal expected in June. On Wednesday, Adrienne Adams, the City Council speaker, said the budget fight was far from over. The mayor’s executive budget, she said, “still leaves our libraries facing significant service cuts, agencies that deliver essential services harmed, and programs that deliver solutions to the city’s most pressing challenges without the investments needed.”
But Mr. Sullivan often insisted that crime was a losing issue for Ms. Hochul. Mr. Sullivan declined to comment on campaign strategy. He and Ms. Hochul have stood by its chairman, Jay Jacobs, who has become a punching bag for Democrats, especially on the left. Mr. Sullivan’s allies say he and Ms. Hochul want to strengthen the party, but they could only describe vague plans. “I don’t think he has any agenda other than the governor being successful.”Susan C. Beachy contributed research.

Now their claims are being backed up by federal investigators who cited Amazon for "failing to keep workers safe" and new 2022 injury data that shows Amazon workers get injured at a rate of 6.9 for every 100 workers. CNBC spoke with workers who've been hurt and asked the government, and Amazon, what's being done to make these warehouses safer.
Tupperware stereotyped women as much as it empowered themTupperware parties became popular social and marketing events in the 1950s and 60s. They wanted to present an upscale version of themselves because these were also events where women were recruited into the Tupperware sales force,” he said. Tupperware products were the centerpiece of the event, carefully stacked and presented to be shown off. Wise, a divorced single mother living in Florida, held her own Tupperware parties in the 1940s and 50s and became a budding entrepreneur. Like Blockbuster, the Tupperware brand will never go away,” he said.

Autonomous Rapid Transit is a cross between light rail and a city bus. Created by the CRRC in China, it's a cost-effective alternative to mass rapid transit. Check out this video to see how it could be utilized in U.S. cities.
Census data shows just 2% of commuters use mass rapid transit like subways, and U.S. rail projects can cost billions of dollars and take decades to complete. "Cities all over the world have proposed light rail systems that either get greatly reduced or don't happen at all because of the expense of putting rail in the roadbed. It's called Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART), and it's made by the CRCC, a Chinese mass transit manufacturer. "It'll look like a light rail, but it is, in fact, a bus. It uses stabilizing technology like active suspension systems which help to make it steadier than a city bus.

Now, many Gen Zers are making friends online through apps like Bumble BFF and Meetup, while facing familiar criticisms. It's still not clear whether such friend-finding apps can grow to become a lucrative addition for internet dating companies.
Over the years, online dating has become almost completely normalized. A recent study showed that 39% of straight couples met online in the U.S. and more than half of LGBTQ couples have used dating apps, according to the Pew Research Center. Apps like Bumble BFF and Meetup have become popular ways to build platonic relationships. Berger said that by the end of 2021, 15% of Bumble users had also used BFF, which is short for best friends forever. Schenk said that Morgan Stanley's 2023 revenue estimate for Bumble is just over $1 billion — with only about $1 million coming from Bumble BFF and friend-finding service Bizz.
A New Jersey woman has been charged with murder, accused of fatally shooting her husband, a figure in local Republican politics, on Christmas Day. An autopsy determined Wigglesworth died of a single gunshot wound and the manner of his death was a homicide, prosecutors said. He previously served as president of the Planning Board in Hamilton Township and unsuccessfully ran as a Republican for the Township Committee in 2012, The Press of Atlantic City reported. Her attorneys, Jonathan E. Diego and Melissa Rosenblum, said in a statement shared with NBC News: “A tragedy occurred on Christmas evening. The facts of that heart-rending evening will unfold in a court of law, not the court of public opinion.”
Electric bikes are becoming increasingly popular around the world. This speed is often blamed for the increased dangers that are seen with e-bikes compared with those of traditional bikes. "E-bikes are three times more likely to result in a hospitalization if an injury occurs compared to traditional bikes," DiMaggio said. "Whether that's pedestrians, regular cyclists or electric bikes." "The big difference that you see here in the Netherlands compared to most other places, with very few exceptions, is that everybody cycles here.

Tom Simpson started his collecting career with a pack of baseball cards in Meigs, Ga., in the 1950s. They came in wax packs—five cards plus a slab of Pepto-Bismol pink bubble gum. A nickel bought you a trip to collector nirvana if a Mickey Mantle or Willie Mays card appeared. Sadly, the baseball cards of his youth were destroyed or lost. But rather than try to rebuild his old card collection, Mr. Simpson has, over the ensuing years, created a trove of sports, music and other types of memorabilia that he has arrayed throughout the 25,000-square-foot property he shares with his wife, June Simpson, in Thonotosassa, Fla., outside Tampa.

For years, BlackBerry was the most popular smartphone brand in the U.S. After failing to adjust to the rapidly-changing industry and falling to competitors like Apple and Google, the company pivoted to an entirely new direction. Now, it's focused solely on software and cybersecurity — trying to leave the iconic cellphones in the past. CNBC visited BlackBerry's Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Center and interviewed CEO John Chen to see what the company is up to now.

The phones were well-known for having a tactile keyboard and for BlackBerry's advanced cybersecurity — often favored among businesses and governments. "Currently, BlackBerry has two main business units, a cybersecurity business unit and an IoT business unit within the cybersecurity business unit," said Charles Eagen, chief technology officer of BlackBerry. Its cybersecurity unit focuses on securing things such as smartphone applications and mobile banking websites. Its internet of things unit focuses on the communication of technology within connected and autonomous cars. However, BlackBerry does face competition in the cybersecurity industry, and in 2021 its revenue from cybersecurity was $500 million.

CNN —If you subscribe to the theory that Willie Mays was the greatest baseball player who ever lived, consider “Say Hey, Willie Mays!” additional ammunition for bar arguments, as well as a whole lot of fun. Those interviewed include Mays’ godson, Barry Bonds, and note that Mays played a pivotal role in bringing him to the Giants in 1993. Setting that aside, “Say Hey, Willie Mays!” is the kind of treat to help tide over baseball fans through the post-season, giving Mays his due while he’s still around to take a bow. It’s a gift for baseball fans who saw him play before he hung up that golden glove nearly 50 years ago, and maybe even more so, for those who didn’t. “Say Hey, Willie Mays!” premieres November 8 at 9 p.m.
Fans run social media accounts dedicated to tracking discontinued products at Trader Joe’s, and others blog about long-lost items at Costco. “We understand that it can be disappointing — devastating, even,” Trader Joe’s says on its “discontinued product feedback” contact page for customers. There are several reasons Trader Joe’s, Costco (COST) and other stores suddenly stop selling customer favorites. Also, for stores like Costco and Trader Joe’s, discontinuing items can reinforce the treasure hunt-like appeal of these stores. One major factor: It’s difficult to get shelf space inside Trader Joe’s and Costco and stay there.
