September 14 - The New York Mets' three-game sweep at Arizona in early July helped send the Diamondbacks into a spiral that nearly ruined their season. The visiting Diamondbacks will look to salvage an important split of a four-game series Thursday afternoon when they face the Mets in the final clash of the season between the teams. "We can't do anything other than come out and win a baseball game (Thursday) and split the series," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said. The nine-game skid completed a 7-25 stretch dating back to July 2 -- two days before the Mets earned an 8-5 win in the opener of a three-game series in Phoenix. Senga also didn't factor into the decision on Friday after giving up two runs over six innings in the Mets' 5-2 loss at Minnesota.

LONDON, Sept 14 (Reuters) - The euphoria that greeted the start of Newcastle United's season has been replaced by a sense of deflation after three successive Premier League losses has left them 14th in the table. "It's never been lost on me how difficult the Premier League is," Howe said after the Brighton defeat. MASTER GUARDIOLAWhile juggling the demands of the Premier League and the Champions League will be new for Howe, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has mastered the art. These are heady days for fourth-placed West Ham with a Europa League campaign starting next week, but they have not enjoyed a Premier League win at home to City since 2014. With some 90% of ballots counted, far-right libertarian economist Javier Milei had 30.5% of the vote, far higher than predicted, with the main conservative opposition bloc behind on 28% and the ruling Peronist coalition in third place on 27%. The result is a stinging rebuke to the center-left Peronist coalition and the main Together for Change conservative opposition bloc with inflation at 116% and a cost-of-living crisis leaving four in 10 people in poverty. “We are the true opposition,” Milei said in a bullish speech after the results. This speaks of people’s anger with politics,” said former conservative President Mauricio Macri as he arrived at Together for Change’s election bunker. LONDON, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Chelsea have broken the British transfer record for the second time in a year by signing Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion on an eight-year contract on Monday. Caicedo still had four years to run on his Brighton contract but had told the south-coast club he wished to leave. A man wearing a face mask as a protective measure against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) walks past the entrance of the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange, a day after midterm primary elections, in Buenos Aires, Argentina September 13, 2021. The primary, which unusually is an obligatory nationwide vote, defines internal leadership battles and acts as a dry run for the general election.
