CNN —More than a decade after he became the first former migrant worker to soar into space as a NASA astronaut, José Hernández reached another milestone this month. Hernández, an engineer, made history aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 2009, the first shuttle mission sending two Latino astronauts into space. The film portrays Hernández’s perseverance as the space agency rejected Hernández’s astronaut applications 11 times before selecting him for the program in 2004. And it shows what a critical role Hernández’s family played supporting him along the way. Daniel Daza/PrimeIn a 2016 interview with CNN, Hernández described how important Adela was in his journey.

Sept 23 (Reuters) - Gresini Racing have the opportunity to sign Marc Marquez next season and are waiting for a decision from the six-times MotoGP champion, Ducati sporting director Paolo Ciabatti said on Saturday. Marquez has struggled with Honda this season and the Spaniard has finished only three races, his best finish being seventh place at Misano earlier this month. The 30-year-old said earlier this month that he will come to a decision during the Indian and Japanese Grands Prix. "As far as Gresini goes, I think it obviously looks like they have this opportunity and they are waiting for Marquez’s decision," Ciabatti said in an interview with MotoGP at the Indian Grand Prix. "For sure one is to stay with Honda, the other two we can only guess... You should ask Marc Marquez and Gresini what's going on.

MISANO ADRIATICO, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Pramac Racing's Jorge Martin led the San Marino Grand Prix in Misano Adriatico from start to finish on Sunday to complete a second sprint and race double of the season and cut Francesco Bagnaia's championship lead to 36 points. Ducati's MotoGP world champion Bagnaia, who had his leg run over in a separate crash last week, finished third. Bagnaia is top of the riders' standings with 283 points, with Martin (247) in second and Bezzecchi (218) in third. After his sprint and race double this weekend and a third-placed finish in Catalunya, Martin has reduced Bagnaia's lead by 30 points in just two weeks. Veteran Pedrosa's creditable fourth-placed finish gave KTM some reason to cheer, after they suffered a double blow when Brad Binder and Jack Miller crashed in successive laps.

LIMA, Sept 6 (Reuters) - President Dina Boluarte of Peru reshuffled six posts in her cabinet on Wednesday, the second partial reshuffle in her eight-month-old administration, though she retained ministers overseeing the key economy and energy and mining portfolios. The ouster was followed by months of protests demanding early elections and Boluarte's resignation, leaving dozens dead. Cabinet changes are frequent in the world's second-largest copper producing nation, which has seen six presidents in just five years. Peru's ministers of education, justice, transport, labor, production and agrarian development were dismissed. The last major reshuffle took place in April, when four of Peru's 19-minister cabinet were removed from their posts.

According to the Wall Street Journal’s polling, Trump held a 24-point lead over DeSantis back in April, 48% to 24%. Or take CNN’s polling, which had Trump ahead of DeSantis by 21 points nationally back in June, 47% to 26%. Or look at Fox News’ poll, which had DeSantis at 28% back in February, versus 43% for Trump. But Fox’s latest national poll — back in mid-August — had DeSantis at 16% (versus 53% for Trump). Altogether, the pattern is clear: DeSantis’ national polling percentages have gone from the mid- to high-20s earlier this year to the teens now.

Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan rejected the Cuban-born umpire's arguments that the league's promotion practices, including its failure to promote him to crew chief, reflected unfair treatment of minorities. Hernandez, an MLB umpire since 1993, claimed he had been discriminated against because he was passed over for crew chief five times between 2011 and 2018, and last umpired a World Series in 2005. Aug 5 (Reuters) - Spaniard Alex Marquez beat late-charging Marco Bezzecchi to become the fifth different sprint winner in nine rounds of the MotoGP season with victory in the 10 lap race at Silverstone on Saturday. The Gresini Racing Ducati rider, who started on the front row in third place, beat VR46 Ducati's pole-sitter Bezzecchi by 0.366 seconds with Aprilia's Maverick Vinales third. The younger brother of six times MotoGP champion Marc, who finished 18th for the struggling Repsol Honda team, Marquez took the lead from KTM's Australian Jack Miller on the second lap on a drying track after heavy rain. Alex Marquez was one of several fallers in qualifying, with some riders questioning whether the sprint should go ahead on safety grounds before conditions improved. "I didn't expect such difficult conditions in the race," said Bezzecchi, who had a big crash in qualifying after securing pole and came back at Marquez in the closing stages.

Former President Donald Trump's 2024 campaign said Wednesday that it has raised $6.6 million since news of his federal indictment broke, including more than $4.5 million online. In an announcement, the campaign said an additional $2.1 million came in at a pre-planned fundraiser Tuesday night at Trump's Bedminster golf course in New Jersey. Altogether, that's a bit more than half of the $12 million Trump's campaign previously announced raising in the six days following the news in late March that he had been indicted in New York City. That indictment alleged that Trump violated New York state law when paying an adult film actress to stay quiet about an alleged affair. Trump's campaign has sent out numerous fundraising emails asking for donations since he revealed that he had been indicted again.

I was born in Tijuana and spent much of my boyhood in a neighborhood — “colonia,” in TJ-speak — called Independencia. The borderlands are the most interesting book in the world, being rewritten every day. A city so defamed, a city so generous.” I dare say most people don’t think of any border city, on either side of the wall, as generous. My favorite border pop song is by Nortec Collective (more on them below), and it’s called “Tijuana Makes Me Happy.” Yeah — the border makes me happy. But I do not believe that immigration stories are a subset of the literature of the borderlands: Though there is some cross-pollination, I believe immigration literature is a genre of its own, deserving of its own spotlight.
