New York CNN —Fox News has proposed a presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris on September 17. It’s not clear if that debate will still take place now that Biden has dropped out of the race. Trump has also expressed displeasure at ABC and has previously posted that he wants Fox News to host the debate instead of the Disney-owned network. In a conference call with reporters on Tuesday, Trump said he “absolutely” wants to debate Harris, and “would be willing to do more than one debate, actually.”“I haven’t agreed to anything. I think debating’s important for a presidential race, I really do, you sort of have an obligation to debate.”

When Jay Chaudhry sold his first company for $70 million, he focused less on his own riches, he says — and more on how the deal could turn dozens of his employees into millionaires. Chaudhry, 65, is known today as the billionaire founder and CEO of Zscaler, a cloud cybersecurity firm valued at roughly $28 billion, as of Wednesday afternoon. Nearly two years after the deal closed, as VeriSign's stock price soared, more than 70 of SecureIT's 80 employees "on paper, were millionaires," Chaudhry tells CNBC Make It. "People were going crazy in the company, because they had never thought of so much money," he says. The bubble burst later that year, and VeriSign's stock lost roughly 75% off that high point at the end of 2000, sinking to a low of nearly $4 in 2002.

Ether ETFs officially began trading in the U.S. on Tuesday, putting the world's second largest crypto currency in a vehicle favored by many professional investors and advisors. The new funds come from traditional fund issuers like BlackRock and Fidelity and crypto-specific companies such as Grayscale, marking another step in the increased integration of digital assets into mainstream finance. The ether ETFs are widely expected to be smaller than the bitcoin funds, both because of the relative size of the two markets and the fact that ether may not be as familiar to many investors. The ether ETFs also do not offer staking, which is a process that can give crypto-native investors additional yield. Both the cheapest and most expensive funds come from Grayscale, which is effectively converting its multi-billion dollar private ether fund into two ETFs with different price points.

New York CNN —Global markets made solid gains after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential election Sunday and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. European markets were higher, and Asian markets closed mostly lower. But “the fact that Biden endorsed Kamala Harris reduces uncertainty,” said Jay Hatfield, CEO at Infrastructure Capital Advisors. “Markets are increasingly focused on the US presidential election in November,” wrote Deutsche Bank’s Henry Allen in a research note on Monday. Stocks tumbled toward the end of last week as a turbulent election cycle and a global tech outage rocked technology stocks in particular.

S&P 500 futures inched up Sunday night after the broad market index suffered its worst weekly losses since April last week as investors rotated out of megacap technology stocks for smaller names. Since Biden's disastrous debate performance in June, many analysts were seeing an increasing likelihood of a win by former President Donald Trump in November. There may be a small unwinding of the Trump trade on Monday as Vice President Harris is perceived to have a slightly better chance of winning," Hatfield said. Traders have been pricing in nearly a 93% likelihood of the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates during its September meeting. During the previous trading week, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite fell nearly 2% and 3.7%, respectively, marking their biggest weekly losses since April.

Trumponomics and the FedOne of the hot debates on Wall Street this election cycle is how Donald Trump would deal with the Fed if he is re-elected and, in particular, if he would fire or demote Jay Powell as chair, The Times’s Jeanna Smialek writes for DealBook. In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek conducted before last weekend’s assassination attempt, Trump said that he did not plan to fire Powell, allowing him to serve out his term. Trump appointed Powell, but turned on him over interest rate policy. The former president was displeased when the central banker refused to cut rates to bolster economic growth. President Biden reappointed Powell to a new four-year term that started in 2022.

CNN —The body found on the Spanish island of Tenerife on Monday has officially been identified as that of missing British teenager Jay Slater, a Spanish court said Tuesday. The court confirmed “by fingerprints that the body found yesterday in the mountains of Masca is that of Jay Slater.”The autopsy confirmed that the death was due to trauma “compatible with a fall in a rocky area.”Slater, who was 19 and from Lancashire, northern England, went missing almost a month ago after attending the NRG festival on the south of the island. He was last heard from around 8:30 a.m. local time (3:30 a.m, ET) on June 17, according to one of his friends, Lucy Mae, who set up a GoFundMe. "It is a luxury, absolutely," Brooke Kimbrough, cofounder and CEO of Roots Surrogacy, told BI. All the surrogacy agencies BI spoke with said it's essentially never the case that someone opts for surrogacy simply for vanity reasons. Perhaps the primary drawback to pursuing concurrent surrogacy (that is, besides the high price tag) is the logistics of it. Jarret Zafran, founder and executive director at Brownstone Surrogacy, told BI that it's not necessarily only the ultrawealthy who pursue concurrent surrogacy. Together, they plunged their life savings — roughly $500,000 — into SecureIT, a cybersecurity software startup they co-founded in 1997.
