Republican presidential candidates talk over each other during the second Republican candidates' debate of the 2024 U.S. presidential campaign at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, September 27, 2023. Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a frequent Trump critic, chimed in, saying Trump was "afraid" and mocking him as "Donald Duck" for skipping the debate. Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee for the November 2024 election, was also a frequent target for the Republican candidates, who castigated his handling of the economy and the southern border with Mexico. "They're all job candidates," Trump said dismissively of the seven Republicans at the debate. Haley, meanwhile, was hoping a second consecutive strong debate performance will convince some Republican donors she has the best odds of unseating Trump.

The World Weather Attribution initiative – a team of scientists that analyze the role of climate change in the aftermath of extreme weather events – found planet-warming pollution made the deadly rainfall in Libya up to 50 times more likely to occur and 50% worse. They also found the extreme rainfall that hit Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria was made up to 10 times more likely. Extreme rainfall has swept across large parts of the Mediterranean region since the start of the month. They found in Libya, not only did climate change make the extreme rainfall up to 50 times more likely, it also made it up to 50% more intense. The kind of extreme rainfall this region experienced is likely to happen around once every 10 years, according to the report.

In this greased-pig economy, stability depends on how confident investors and policymakers are that they're close to catching the pig. Moving in a messIn the messy economy the pandemic left us, it's not easy to pinpoint exactly why inflation has been so stubborn. CPI inflation peaked at 9% in June 2022 and has been going down steadily since. But with inflation still above the Fed's goal, it's clear we need to recalibrate some on the demand side still.

CNN —A Picasso masterpiece entitled “Femme à la montre” fetched more than $139 million on Wednesday, becoming the second most valuable work by the artist ever sold at auction. The 1932 oil painting took center-stage at a two-day event at Sotheby’s in New York, at the sale of late philanthropist Emily Fisher Landau’s private collection. She is pictured here in front of Fernand Léger's "Étude pour Les Constructeurs" in her home in Manhattan in 2002. In a statement announcing the sale in September, Julian Dawes, Sotheby’s head of Impressionist & Modern Art for the Americas, said: “Picasso’s ‘Femme à la Montre’ is a masterpiece by every measure. Andy Warhol's 1986 self portrait will also be auctioned as part of Fisher Landau's collection.
