CNN —A major Supreme Court ruling Friday that shifted power from the executive branch to the judiciary stands to transform how the federal government works. By overturning a 1984 precedent, the court’s conservative majority has made countless regulations vulnerable to legal challenge. The Supreme Court ruling could boost efforts by conservatives who have taken aim at the Biden Environmental Protection Agency’s rules limiting planet-warming pollution from vehicles, oil and gas wells and pipelines, and power plants. The ruling has injected legal uncertainty into regulations of all types, including those on technology, labor, the environment and health care. But the Supreme Court has yet to decide a case heard this term that might gut that limitation.

One result of this openness is a love of travel — I've visited 40 of the 50 United States and 25 countries (and counting). So, I still take an annual solo trip these days. Like many parts of parenting, traveling solo is a push-pull in two directions for me. Tiffany Nieslanik traveled all over Europe when she was younger, and it showed her that solo travel isn't scary. When that time comes, I don't want to have forgotten who I am outside "mom," and my annual solo trip helps me remember who that is.

"Brat," along with viral hits like Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso" and Tinashe's "Nasty," have ushered in a season of pleasure and levity — what my friends and I have been calling a "smooth brain summer." The primary lure of pop music has always been escapism. Indeed, we've lived in a pop world dominated by Taylor Swift and refashioned in her likeness for several years. These peculiar bops form the perfect foundation for a "smooth brain summer" soundtrack — though please note that doesn't mean they're devoid of value or meaning. An appetite (and a need) still exists for complex metaphors, history lessons, and personal revelations in pop music — but now is not the time.

Emotional intelligence is one of the most sought-after skills, and also among the hardest to learn. Research dating back decades has found that emotional intelligence — the ability to manage your own feelings and the feelings of those around you — is the strongest predictor of success in the workplace. You can assess and improve your EQ by paying closer attention to your conversations at work, says Juliette Han, a Harvard-trained neuroscientist and adjunct professor at Columbia Business School. "Anything you can say that demonstrates empathy, curiosity, patience or self-awareness signals a high EQ," Han tells CNBC Make It. Here are three phrases those with higher emotional intelligence often use at work, according to Han:

Viktor Orban, Hungary's prime minister, arrives on day one of the European Union (EU) leaders summit at the EU Council headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, on Monday, May 30, 2022. Hungary's motto for its presidency — Make Europe Great Again — raised eyebrows for its resemblance to the famous tagline of former U.S. President Donald Trump. The EU presidency rotates among its member countries, and while the post holds little real power, it does allow countries to put their priorities high on Europe's agenda. As Hungary's takeover approached, leaders in Brussels rushed to push through important policy decisions while Belgium was still at the helm. "(A Hungarian) delay, according to most European leaders, is already calculated and being taken into consideration as if it's something which is most likely going to happen."

Sixteen years ago, Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway unveiled a $230 million investment in Chinese electric vehicle startup BYD , sparking questions about the conglomerate's unusual foray into early-stage technology. Lately, Berkshire has been selling down the position, ringing the register after earning billions of dollars during its hyper-growth phase. Berkshire trimmed its BYD stake to 5.99% as of June 19 from 7% just a few days earlier , according to a Hong Kong Stock Exchange filing . It has since become the top car brand in China, as well as a major producer of EV batteries. "From a standing start at zero and with very little capital, he rapidly was able to create the best-selling single model in China," Munger said.

His oldest child and his only daughter just announced to him that she is something different than what’s considered traditional. I did not say, “Hi Gay, I’m Dad.” She set me up with the perfect dad joke opportunity, and I missed it. I am honored that my daughter trusted me enough to know I would be there for her, even if she had her doubts. This was on my mind when my daughter decided to tell her story. But my daughter and her girlfriend having the confidence and support to come out and be who they truly are is a very big deal.

Charlie Munger wasn't just an acclaimed investor, one of the masterminds behind Berkshire Hathaway's decades of financial success. French Gates, 59, shared her favorite lesson of Munger's during a recent commencement speech at Stanford University. "As a society, we aren't always set up to feel responsibility for the person who's next to us or the person who's on the other side of a divide or a debate," French Gates added. In the summer of 1964, Italian fishermen recovered an antique bronze statue from the seabed off Italy’s Adriatic coast. It reappeared in the gallery of a Munich art dealer who dated it to around 400 B.C. The Getty Foundation bought it in 1977 for almost $4 million and put it on display as the “Victorious Youth” at the Getty Villa, where it still is. In May, the European Court of Human Rights upheld Italy’s right to seize the statue. If a statue cast in Greece 2,000 years ago is discovered off the coast of Italy, is it part of the heritage of modern Italy?

During his 2016 campaign, Donald J. Trump orchestrated a takeover of the Republican Party in part by blasting wealthy political donors as the root of corruption and delivering a populist message that appealed to working-class voters. Eight years later, one of his key decision points in choosing a running mate is connections to the superrich. As the end of the selection process approaches, with an announcement expected in the next two weeks after months of suggestion and misdirection, Republican hopefuls are looking to convince Mr. Trump that they have the financial backing behind them that could help swing the race. There are other factors that could make for a good match. Mr. Trump is said to be considering candidates with discipline on the campaign trail, who will not steal his precious spotlight and would fare well in a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Iran and Israel traded threats Saturday of what Iran said would be an "obliterating" war over Hezbollah. Attacks intensified this month after Israel killed a top Hezbollah commander and Hezbollah responded with some of its biggest missile barrages. "Such a war would be a catastrophe for Lebanon," Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said as he met recently with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant at the Pentagon. "Another war between Israel and Hezbollah could easily become a regional war, with terrible consequences for the Middle East." It's a big enough issue that federal agencies like the FBI and Federal Trade Commission have issued warnings about job scams. Then, they may ask you to send them money or personal information, according to Amanda Augustine, a career expert at TopResume. Some companies make executive-level job openings confidential to high-profile applicants at first, but they will begin disclosing more details about the role as the interview process gets underway. For job openings that have no reason being kept so tightly under wraps, a formal job description should be handed over upon request, Augustine explains.
