Although the national year-over-year inflation rate has dropped to 3%, it has hovered around 5% in Dallas-Fort Worth in 2024, according to a new WalletHub report. Inflation in Dallas-Fort Worth has also risen steadily by 1% over the past two months — making it the nation's worst city for inflation, according to the study. Aside from Dallas-Fort Worth, Honolulu is the only other city in the study with year-over-year inflation that's 5% or higher. Below are WalletHub's rankings of metro areas with the worst inflation, from worst to best. The rankings are based on an index that's weighted equally between year-over-year inflation and inflation over the past two months as of June 2024.

☆ Goodyear, Arizona to Fort Myers, Florida: 10 fastest-growing retirement hot spots in America, according to a new study

When Americans think about where to retire, they're pretty likely to think about Florida and a June GOBankingRates study of the fastest-growing retirement hot spots around the U.S. shows just that. Four of the top 10 retirement hot spots ranked in the study are in Florida. The Sunshine State also landed 12 spots on the top 50 list. To determing the ranking, GOBankingRates looked at every city in the U.S. that met the following criteria: had at least 7,500 people aged 65+ living in the area as of 2022 and a 65+ population above the national average of 16.5%. All data used in the study was sourced from the 2022, 2021, and 2017 American Community Surveys conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Just before this week’s United States Olympic gymnastics team trials, a very eager worker flew to the host city of Minneapolis with protein treats, a collection of colorful bandannas and a stuffed turtle. His job is to destress the American gymnasts at their major events, including trials, the competition that will determine the United States team for next month’s Paris Olympics. “Beacon, I just love you so much!” the national team gymnast Joscelyn Roberson said as she laid down next to him for 30 minutes after a training session at the recent national championships in Fort Worth. Gymnastics can do for us.”Beacon, handled by his human, Tracey Callahan Molnar — who is a former rhythmic gymnast and a longtime coach — plays a warm and fuzzy role in an effort by U.S.A. Gymnastics to promote a culture that protects the well-being of its athletes.

☆ A Migrant Family Survives Shelter Evictions With the Help of a School - The New York Times

Mary Lauri and Roberto Rodríguez, asylum seekers from Venezuela, heard about Public School 46, in Fort Greene in Brooklyn, from a mother at Hall Street, the emergency shelter where their family had been placed. It was five blocks away and had a Spanish dual-language program. When Ms. Rodríguez went to register her two younger children the second week in January, the school’s parent coordinator, Amanda Ocasio, a 30-year-old Puerto Rican woman with platinum hair, big brown eyes and funky red glasses, was standing inside the entrance with the security guards to welcome them. There was breakfast, and there were piles of warm clothes, school supplies and toiletries in the teachers’ lounge for parents and children to choose from. Allison Blechman, the English as a new language teacher, took the family on a tour of the school: a beautiful library with books in English and Spanish and comfortable chairs, a science lab with 3-D printers, an auditorium with a stage and curtains like a real theater, whiteboards in every classroom.
