The British billionaire and chairman of aviation consultancy Action Aviation is among those missing, according to his stepson. The 77-year-old French explorer, whom media say is one of the five on board, is director of underwater research at a company that owns the rights to the Titanic wreck. The founder and CEO of the vessel's U.S.-based operating company OceanGate is also on the submersible, according to media reports. "It is an amazingly beautiful wreck," Rush told Britain's Sky news of the Titanic earlier this year.

The submersible was part of an eight-day journey conducted by OceanGate Expeditions. It’s still not clear what happened to the submersible, why it lost contact, and how close to the Titanic it was when it went missing. According to OceanGate, Titan is a 23,000-pound submersible made of carbon fiber and titanium. On Pogue’s trip, communications broke down during a dive and the submersible was lost for over two hours, he said. The US Coast Guard is coordinating the search with the US Navy, the Canadian Coast Guard and the Canadian military.

Apple could overcome VR’s nerd and creepy factors

NEW YORK, June 6 (Reuters Breakingviews) - To be successful at launching a new technological device, a company must overcome both nerd and creepy factors. Meta Platforms (META.O), after buying headset company Oculus in 2014, uses its products to push Mark Zuckerberg's pet project, the Metaverse. And people may still be uncomfortable about switching between the real world and the virtual one. But as far as finding a device that is both aesthetic and copacetic, Apple's real world experience suggests it has a better chance at success than others. The wedding industry should enjoy the recovery, because it may not last.

Mexico increased their World Cup medal tally to four on Monday at the competition in Egypt, having travelled there thanks to the support of businessman Carlos Slim. With three golds and a bronze, the North American country finished second in the medal table behind Spain. Their first medal success came in the Mixed Team Technical event on Saturday, when a statement from the government praising the swimmers raised eyebrows after the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE) cut support from the team. "The Mexican artistic swimming team's historic participation in the World Cup in Egypt was a golden one. loadingCONADE head Ana Guevara announced the cut in funding in January after global governing body World Aquatics did not recognise the president of the Mexican Swimming Federation, Kiril Todorov, who is facing a trial for embezzlement.

Barcroft Media/Getty ImagesThe Australian Shark Incident Database, unlike ISAF, has recorded Nellist's death as an "unprovoked incident."
Nemo’s Garden uses hydroponics – a technique that uses water-based nutrients instead of soil, the same method used in most indoor vertical farms. Studies ranging in nature from pharmaceutical to culinary have been conducted on Nemo’s Garden. “In our studies Nemo’s Garden has 58% more fish than the surrounding environment, so it has a repopulation effect,” he adds. Equipment inside Nemo's Garden is powered by renewable energy like solar panels and wind turbines. The team at Nemo’s Garden has plans for even bigger biospheres in the future, as well as other locations.
WHY WE’RE HEREWe’re exploring how America defines itself one place at a time. In Northern California, prospectors are looking to strike gold after the winter storms, recalling a storied era in state history. April 22, 2023PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Albert Fausel spends his days at the family hardware store sorting through boxes of bolts and pacing the old, creaking floorboards to greet his loyal clientele. But on a recent sunny afternoon, he threw on his wet suit and diver’s mask and inserted himself face down in the shallow creek near his home. In just 20 minutes of rooting around the creek bed, Mr. Fausel had found about $100 worth of gold.
A couple signs of stability for those worried about the banking crisis: regional bank stocks are mostly up this week, and inflows into money market funds have reversed. The Regional Bank ETF (KRE) is still 25% lower than it was in early March. Another sign of calm: money market inflows have stopped. Total assets in money market funds fell by $68.64 billion in the week ended April 19, according to the Investment Company Institute. From late February to early April, net assets of money market funds increased by about 10%, to $5.27 trillion.
Musk later apologized for the tweet. At the time of the incident, billionaire investor Ron Baron told Musk to stop tweeting. In July 1941, a British submarine sank an Italian submarine in the Mediterranean Sea. It was against this backdrop that the Royal Navy submarine HMS Torbay and the Italian submarine Jantina squared off in the Aegean Sea near the island of Mykonos. The first two passed in front of the Italian sub, but the next struck it and exploded. The Italian sub sank quickly, and only six of the 48-man crew survived, swimming to a nearby island. By the end of the war, Torbay had sunk more than 40 German, Italian, and Japanese warships, merchant ships, and other vessels.

Tesla investor Ron Baron once emailed Elon Musk and told him to stop tweeting when upset. Baron told CNBC that Musk has made him "$5 billion so far, on a $400 million investment." In his 2018 email, Baron told Musk to turn the other cheek. When an attorney for the plaintiffs showed him the email, Musk offered his own take on Baron's message to him. "He's not saying don't use Twitter, he's saying I shouldn't respond to criticism in the news on Twitter," Musk said on the stand at the time.
At the time of the email, Musk was battling a cave rescue diver who was suing him for defamation. Before grabbing some ice cream — I'll probably get cookies and cream — let's dive into today's tech. The tech world was thrown into chaos as Silicon Valley lost faith in its go-to bank, SVB Financial. If startups are worried the bank can't give them all their money back, then they might pull their accounts. Investors are sinking millions into startups like MARZ and Runway to bring AI tech to film and TV.
