The three players, who all bet on National Football League games during the 2022 season, may petition for reinstatement after the 2023 campaign, the league said in a statement. Shortly after the NFL announced the suspensions, the Colts waived defensive end Berry and cornerback Rodgers. "We have made the following roster moves as a consequence of the determination that these players violated the league’s gambling policy," said Colts General Manager Chris Ballard. "We will continue to emphasize to our players the importance of understanding and adhering to league rules and policies." Berry broke into the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and played eight games over parts of two seasons.

May 5 (Reuters) - Skinner, the bay colt trained by John Shirreffs, has become the fourth horse scratched from Saturday's Kentucky Derby, bringing the field for the first leg of U.S. thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown down to 19, Churchill Downs said on Friday. Skinner was a fast-closing third in his most-recent outing, the Santa Anita Derby in early April, and was seen as a serious contender for the Kentucky Derby. The announcement comes a day after Lord Miles, Practical Move and Continuar were also scratched from the field, each for varying reasons. The last time four horses were scratched from the Kentucky Derby was 2015 when 22 horses entered the race. Lord Miles was scratched after Churchill Downs suspended the bay colt's trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. following the death of two of his horses at the property ahead of the Kentucky Derby.

The Indianapolis Colts — who have relied on past-their-prime quarterbacks (Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan) or reclamation projects (Carson Wentz) since Andrew Luck’s sudden retirement before the 2019 season — selected Florida’s Anthony Richardson with the fourth pick. The Seattle Seahawks possessed two first-round picks because of last year’s Russell Wilson trade, which has become like an overflowing gift basket for them. The Seahawks selected Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon fifth overall and Ohio State receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba 20th overall. Smith-Njigba caught 95 passes in 2021 but battled a hamstring injury throughout last season. The Las Vegas Raiders selected Texas Tech defensive lineman Tyree Wilson with the seventh pick.
At Community Solutions, the tensions began after the group was awarded a $100 million grant from the MacArthur Foundation. When they informed management of their decision, workers said they were surprised when Community Solutions hired a powerful law firm, Proskauer, to negotiate a contract. (The firm is also representing The New York Times in current contract negotiations with the The New York Times Guild.) “This was a value statement, based on our lived experiences,” he said. The clause that management would like to use, she continued, “includes strong anti-discrimination language that is nearly identical to other collective bargaining agreements negotiated by the same union.”
Those cutaways during the NFL Draft to hopefuls waiting for their names to be picked as other players are chosen ahead of them. Will Levis, the quarterback from Kentucky, was widely projected to be drafted in the first round, if not the top 10 selections. Levis waits in the Green Room with family at the 2023 NFL Draft. Levis waited, waited, waited and waited. But when the final pick was turned in and it Levis’ name wasn’t on that ticket, the waiting game was over.

PinnedQuarterbacks, top-10 trades and a bull market for running backs headlined the first round of this year’s N.F.L. The Carolina Panthers chose Alabama quarterback Bryce Young at No. After the Texans picked Stroud, they struck again, leaping from pick No. One unexpected development was the move toward running backs, a position that has been devalued in the N.F.L. But teams picked other quarterbacks or filled other needs, this year’s reminder that pre-draft speculation is just that.
draft is a pinnacle for many players, most of whom have dreamed for years of hearing their names called by Commissioner Roger Goodell in front of millions of TV viewers. But in 2020, as players celebrated reaching the professional ranks, the broadcast zoomed in on their personal tragedies. Viewers learned, for example, that the sister of receiver Jerry Jeudy, whom the Denver Broncos selected 15th overall, had died while he was in high school. The package introducing Michael Pittman Jr., a receiver taken 34th by the Indianapolis Colts, revealed his stutter. Trevon Diggs, a cornerback picked 51st by the Dallas Cowboys, was noted to have lost his father to heart failure in 2008.
Of course, Hurts' strong performance over the past two seasons contributed to his landing the biggest contract in NFL history. But it also came down to his management team. Hurts is managed by an all-women management team from the sports agency Klutch Sports Group. And that's how I am on the field and off the field," Hurts told Sports Illustrated in August 2022. Lynn and the management team have continued breaking convention and setting records with this new deal.

NFL Hall of Famer and NBC Sports analyst Tony Dungy is facing renewed criticism for his history of anti-LGBTQ statements after he tweeted an anti-transgender conspiracy theory last week. Zeigler said he isn’t convinced that Dungy’s anti-LGBTQ rhetoric would stop anytime soon.
AN UNFUSSY and downright brutish, midcentury vintage chair design has been muscling its way into even the most traditional of homes lately. Some look like little more than two pieces of wood attached to legs, but keyhole details or sculpted backs can make them sweeter. Designers and dealers are calling the increasingly in-demand seats, which hail primarily from Scandinavia and Europe, brutalist. At online marketplace 1stDibs , searches for “brutalist chair” are up 115% year over year. “I used it as a decorative accent, as though it were a piece of art,” she said.
Players Show Football’s Grind on Their Feet and HandsOver the course of the long and brutal N.F.L. season, players’ feet and hands take a beating on nearly every snap. Hurts led six scoring drives and the Eagles never trailed the Giants (9-7-1), who had already sewn up the No. 6 seed and opted to rest quarterback Daniel Jones, Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley and other starters. Smith finished the regular season with 4,282 yards passing, surpassing Russell Wilson's team record of 4,219 set in 2016. It was the team's first game since the Bills' safety, Damar Hamlin, collapsed and suffered cardiac arrest in the midst of a Monday night game against the Bengals in Cincinnati — and the team said its stunning success from the very start of the game was in Hamlin's honor. After Hines' second kickoff return for a touchdown occurred in the third quarter of the game, fans and teammates went wild. Trainers surrounded Hamlin and he received CPR for several minutes as the Bills knelt to pray on the field. "Thankful for everyone who has reached out and prayed," Hamlin tweeted. The NFL said Hamlin will receive his full $825,000 for 2022 despite landing on the injured reserve list.
Millions of football fans held their breath for close to 20 long minutes Monday night when Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin had a cardiac arrest after making a routine tackle. In the largest study conducted on the subject, 99% of former NFL players showed signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a devastating neurodegenerative disease caused by repeated head trauma. Another key study showed that 40% of retired NFL players have traumatic brain injury, with no correlation between the number of concussions and the severity of the injury. Seau’s death brought the issue of traumatic brain injury to a boiling point, and yet the league’s steps to address the issue appear to be little more than Band-Aids. He raised his hands in an unnatural movement that can be a sign of traumatic brain injury.

Alright, I did not think anything could top the Minnesota Vikings roaring back from 33-0 to stun the Indianapolis Colts Saturday in yet another absurdist “Minneapolis Miracle.” And yet…If you watched Sunday’s World Cup final between Argentina and France, I don’t need to explain.
There were many reasons to doubt the true strength of the Minnesota Vikings this season despite their 10-3 record entering this weekend. The Vikings had gotten by while eking past opponents in close games all year and had actually given up more points than they had scored. The team’s issues were on full display Saturday when Minnesota went down 33-0 to the lowly Indianapolis Colts. It looked like a fitting sequel to last weekend’s loss to the Detroit Lions.
