We are doing everything that we can do to make sure that we can locate and rescue those on board. So after receiving the call, we launched, well, reached out to the vessel Polar Prince and began a surface search looking for the submersible. We’ve subsequently coordinated with the Canadian Coast Guard and Canadian Armed Forces to deploy additional assets to the scene. It's not too late to book a short-term vacation rental on Cape Cod this summer. Even as the vacation hot spot enters its busy season, locals are seeing the demand for vacation rentals soften. The occupancy rate is down 20% from last year, according to The Cape Cod & Islands Association of Realtors. After listing those homes on sites like Airbnb and Vrbo, the supply of vacation rentals is through the roof. The real estate group says the average daily rate has climbed to $619 up from $525 last summer.

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a missing Canadian research submersible that disappeared on Sunday after it went to explore the wreck of the Titanic. The 21-foot submersible and its five-person crew, from the Canadian research vessel Polar Prince, started a dive on Sunday morning, according to the Coast Guard. The missing submersible was part of an OceanGate Expeditions tour exploring the Titanic wreckage, located 900 nautical miles east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He said the Coast Guard immediately launched a surface and aerial search to find or recover the submersible and any survivors. Mauger added at the press conference that the Coast Guard is working to expand its capabilities to include an underwater search as well.

The submersible was part of an eight-day journey conducted by OceanGate Expeditions. It’s still not clear what happened to the submersible, why it lost contact, and how close to the Titanic it was when it went missing. According to OceanGate, Titan is a 23,000-pound submersible made of carbon fiber and titanium. On Pogue’s trip, communications broke down during a dive and the submersible was lost for over two hours, he said. The US Coast Guard is coordinating the search with the US Navy, the Canadian Coast Guard and the Canadian military.

The location of this small event, it turned out, was an old Black neighborhood that was changing over time as residents from different racial backgrounds and income levels moved in for the river views. Juneteenth festivities have long represented tucked-away spaces, deeply local, somewhat surprising and fitted to the variances of Black life in America. In other parts of the country, Black communities celebrated what they called Emancipation Day, keyed to a different historical timestamp. Many Black communities along the Atlantic seaboard celebrated Emancipation Day. There, Juneteenth will be celebrated in the historic building of another African Meeting House, which will have a bicentennial anniversary in 2025.
