They are meant to provide voters with a meaty opportunity to judge their options side-by-side, to listen to them field tough questions, to compare their policies and priorities and visions of leadership. It is all the truer for Mr. Trump, who is dominating the Republican herd. Even with Mr. Trump missing, there will be much awkward talk of him. London CNN —Over 100 people were trapped for several hours in Greenway, the former home of famed British mystery writer Agatha Christie, in the English countryside on Friday. Caroline Heaven, a tourist who was visiting Greenway, contacted local news outlet Devon Live to spread the word that roughly 100 tourists were trapped in the grounds of Christie’s former holiday home. Britain’s National Trust which manages the historic site quickly put a message on its website, announcing that a large tree had fallen on the single-track road leading into Greenway. A spokesperson for the National Trust said it was aware that there were “visitors, staff and volunteers still at Greenway unable to leave,” adding that the National Trust was “doing everything” to ensure their comfort whilst they waited. Christie herself was known to while away the hours on Greenway’s lawns, playing clock golf and croquet and entertaining guests with snippets from her latest mystery novels, according to the National Trust website.

A photograph of former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie speaking at a 2012 public event has been edited to increase the width of his arms and torso, leaving some social media users confused about his actual appearance. Examples of Facebook users sharing the photo as if it were authentic can be seen (here) and (here). The original version is credited to Reuters photographer Bryan Snyder and shows Chris Christie speaking at a campaign rally alongside then Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in Exeter, New Hampshire. The misleading image has been shared days before Christie is expected to officially launch his campaign for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination (here), (here). A Reuters picture of Christie at a 2012 campaign rally has been edited to depict him as larger than in the original photo.

Chris Christie filed to run for president on Tuesday ahead of announcing his second bid for the White House and kicking off another clash with former President Donald Trump, the GOP frontrunner and a former Christie ally. Both would eventually drop out – Christie after he finished sixth in the New Hampshire primary – and endorse Trump. “We keep losing and losing and losing,” Christie said at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership conference late last year. “No way.”Christie was first elected New Jersey governor in 2009, unseating Democratic incumbent Jon Corzine.

In making a second run for the presidency, Mr. Christie, 60, has positioned himself as the person most willing to attack both Mr. Trump, his former friend turned adversary, and Gov. Mr. Christie’s presence in the race could be unwelcome for Mr. DeSantis, for whom every additional candidate harms his ability to consolidate support. That case is one that other hopefuls have generally sidestepped, instead largely avoiding saying Mr. Trump’s name. By contrast, Mr. Christie has gone directly at him. He has mocked Mr. Trump’s dwindling crowd sizes, called him a loser and said that he crossed a line with his actions that led a pro-Trump mob to attack the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Any race that pits Mr. Christie against Mr. Trump is bound to be especially personal. Mr. Trump seemed to find joy in belittling Mr. Christie from the White House; Mr. Christie blamed Mr. Trump for giving him a bout of Covid that left him gravely ill and hospitalized. In interviews with New Jersey voters, Mr. Christie’s assets and liabilities were repeatedly described as two sides of the same coin. And to Trump loyalists who might prefer that Mr. Christie retreat permanently to his beach house in Bay Head, it was much the same refrain: He is not Mr. Trump. After dropping out of the 2016 presidential contest, Mr. Christie became one of Mr. Trump’s biggest boosters.
