FactSet data showed that as of Thursday, 80% of the 61 companies in the S & P 500 that had already reported topped analyst earnings estimates. Analysts have revised their earnings estimates upwards by 25% and 64%, respectively, in the past three and six months. With the S & P 500 surging more than 18% in 2024, it might be time for investors to make a few defensive moves in their portfolios. But that surge is spurring some financial advisors to reassess their clients' exposure to large-cap tech and turn toward currently unloved asset categories that could be poised to rise. "It might take a little longer to manifest but we think [health care] is an interesting combination of offense and defense, and it provides meaningful cash flows for investors," Saccocia said. Checking in on risk and cash Investors reviewing their 2024 gains should also reassess their risk profile and consider whether their asset allocation reflects their long-term goals. Stocks also went on a tear as Covid-19 killed millions and gutted economies across the globe. “The market’s up today, but the market’s up every day,” Steve Sosnick, chief strategist at Interactive Brokers, tells me. Read previewPolitical leaders like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rep. Lauren Boebert have created an environment in the US where violence is normalized, a political violence expert said in the wake of former President Donald Trump's attempted assassination. Rachel Kleinfeld, an expert on political violence, told Politico she thinks it's "political leaders like Marjorie Taylor Greene or Lauren Boebert or so on" who've been "amplifying the extremes" in the country. After the shooting, Greene blamed the incident on the Democratic Party. On Sunday — less than a day after the Trump rally shooting — senior lawmakers like House Speaker Mike Johnson asked people to cool it with the heated rhetoric. Representatives for Trump, Greene and Boebert did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider sent outside regular business hours.

Corporations absolve their employees of responsibility by delegating decision-making to an algorithm or deferring to company policy. Sorry, it's company policyAccording to Davies, accountability sinks emerged over the past decades of privatization and technological innovation.
