CAS said it’s now up to the International Gymnastics Federation to determine how medals should be reassigned given the ruling. GO DEEPER How a score inquiry led to gymnast Jordan Chiles' Olympic bronzeThe appeal by the Romanian federation requested all three athletes be placed in third and allocated medals, the court said in its release. After Chiles finished her routine, Bărbosu beamed and held the Romanian flag to celebrate winning bronze, unaware that Chiles’ coach had submitted an inquiry. Upon seeing the changed score, Chiles began screaming in celebration. Before Chiles’ inquiry, Bărbosu and Maneca-Voinea were tied for third with identical scores of 13.700.

CNN —The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled on Saturday that the initial inquiry made by the USA over Jordan Chiles’ score in Monday’s gymnastics floor exercise final was filed after the one-minute deadline. That means that Chiles’ score is being reverted to the original 13.666, which was only good enough for fifth place. It’s unclear as of Saturday what that means for the bronze medal that Chiles was awarded. Immediately after the competition finished on Monday with Chiles’ routine, Romanian gymnast Ana Bărbosu thought she had won the bronze medal after posting a score of 13.700. CNN has reached out to the FIG to ask what their ruling will be on whether Chiles’ medal will be revoked.

It was a familiar scene Friday for Team USA in the men's 4x100-meter relay, as their formidable speed was halted once again by a botched baton pass. We are drawn to stories of individuals who not only embody the pursuit of excellence, but also have humility. Perhaps the most iconic image from these Games occurred after one of the few gymnastics events she didn’t completely dominate, the individual floor competition. In the stands, supporting and helping to coach him, was Renaud Lavillenie, the Frenchman whose world record Duplantis first broke in 2020. Then there was the American sprinter Noah Lyles, who earned the title of world’s fastest man by winning gold in the 100-meter dash. Shortly after, he wrote in a social media message to fans: “I have asthma, allergies, dyslexia, A.D.D., anxiety, and depression.

The decorated Kenyan runner hopes to change that in Paris over the coming days, entering the women’s marathon race as one of the favorites for the title. This will be Obiri’s fourth Games, making her a veteran in the women’s marathon field. Her introduction to marathon running, it’s fair to say, has been a learning curve. “When I go to the race, they [my coaches] told me that the marathon, it’s about being patient, waiting until the last minute,” said Obiri. Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa, the current world record holder, is also a strong contender for the gold medal.

Jordan Chiles and Simone Biles came up with the plan. They had both wanted to be on the top step of the medal stand after the final event of the women’s gymnastics competition, the floor exercise. But Biles, the favorite, had made a few mistakes, and Chiles had made a few more, so they instead became bookends to the true headliner: Rebeca Andrade of Brazil. After Chiles accepted her bronze medal and Biles her silver, Andrade was introduced as the Olympic champion. As she approached the podium — completing the first all-Black podium in Olympic gymnastics history — Biles and Chiles turned to Andrade, dropped to one knee and bowed.

PARIS — Two days after Noah Lyles said he tested positive for Covid, the American sprinter finished third in the 200-meter final at the Paris Olympics, unable to chase down gold medalist Letsile Tebogo of Botswana. Lyles ran 19.70 for bronze, behind Tebogo's 19.46, which earned the first gold medal in Botswana's history. Following his positive test, Lyles said he moved into a hotel away from the Olympic Village to quarantine himself and arrived for warmups before Wednesday's semifinal with a mask on. He said he never considered not competing in Thursday's final and intentionally did not disclose information about his diagnosis. American sprinter Gabby Thomas won her first Olympic gold medal in the 2024 Paris Games women's 200-meter final on Tuesday — an accomplishment that she credits, in part, to her second job. The 27-year-old, who took home bronze and silver during her Olympic debut at the Tokyo games, balances her career as an Olympian with a job in health care. Thomas holds a bachelor's degree in neurobiology from Harvard University and a master's degree in public health from the University of Texas Health Science Center. In the months leading up to the Games, Thomas trained three to six hours a day, but at night, she worked at an Austin volunteer health-care clinic for people without insurance. "I think I'm just so grateful to get to do what I love," Thomas told Olympics.com.
