REUTERS/Brendan McDermidDETROIT – Ford Motor on Tuesday reported a roughly 10% increase in its quarterly U.S. sales, led by jumps in its critical F-Series pickups and Bronco SUVs. Sales of Ford's trucks increased by nearly 20%, while car sales were up by 5.1% and SUVs increased by less than 1%. Ford reported sales of 170,377 F-Series pickups, up about 21% compared to a year earlier. Ford's sales increase comes as Wall Street analysts monitor rising vehicle inventories and incentives for the U.S. automotive industry following historically low levels of both during the past three years. Morgan Stanley estimates industry sales last month increased 8.7%, as automakers increase production levels following several years of significant supply chain problems.
In 2021, she started a side hustle on the car-rental app hoping to earn passive income. Last year, she earned $76,620 in passive income from her fleet of seven cars. Much of her earnings are passive income because renting out her cars does not require significant ongoing time commitments. It is a really good way for me to live out my love for cars while also making additional income. It probably took me about 30 days after I started on Turo when I started to slowly acquire more cars.
The project could also receive up to $180 million in job development tax credits based on hiring, said South Carolina Commerce Secretary Harry Lightsey. In May, VW said it would reintroduce the Scout off-road brand in the United States, offering new electric pickup and sport-utility vehicles. Scout said it hopes to eventually create 4,000 jobs and produce 200,000 Scout vehicles annually. Volkswagen has moved away from cars in the United States. Monday's event was the latest major auto announcement for South Carolina, home to BMW's (BMWG.DE) U.S. operations and its largest plant by volume.
DETROIT/WASHINGTON, March 3 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co (F.N) on Friday said it was studying ways to boost output of gasoline-powered and hybrid F-150 trucks at a Michigan factory as part of a broader plan to boost production of several models. The automaker reiterated that it is still on track to triple F-150 Lightning EV production this year, targeting an annual production run rate of 150,000 by the end of 2023. The automaker was forced to halt production in early February after a battery fire, and plans to resume production on March 13. Ford's U.S. F-150 sales fell 9.9% in 2022 to about 654,000, including 15,617 F-150 EV trucks, as the company struggled with production and supply chain problems. Postal Service this week said it would buy 9,250 E-Transit delivery vehicles from Ford starting later this year.

Hilton CEO Chris Nassetta says selling his black Porsche 944 was the best financial decision he ever made. "I spent all my money on that stupid car." Since 2007, Nassetta has driven something more practical: a four-door Lexus sedan he bought just after landing the top role at Hilton. In 2020, the mechanic called Nassetta to say he'd found someone nearby with the vehicle — but it was barely running. Together, Nassetta and the mechanic spent two years repairing the car, completing the project last May.
DETROIT – Ford Motor's new U.S. vehicle sales started 2023 on stronger footing than a year earlier, but were down 18.4% from December. The automotive industry continues to navigate through some supply chain and production issues, although the flow of parts and vehicle production this year is expected to be more consistent than in recent years. For January, Ford reported a 2% increase in sales from a year earlier to 146,356 vehicles sold. The uptick was led by sales increases of 8.8% for F-Series pickups, 25.5% for Broncos, and 52% for Bronco Sport SUVs — as well as a doubling of its electric vehicle sales, which have been and remain minimal. Some of the automaker's crossovers such as the Ford Edge and Escape experienced double-digit declines from a year earlier.
WASHINGTON, Jan 27 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co (F.N) said Friday it is recalling 462,000 vehicles worldwide because video output may fail, preventing the rearview camera image from displaying. The recall expands and replaces a 2021 recall of 228,000 vehicles. NHTSA in August 2021 opened an investigation after Ford in 2020 recalled 620,246 vehicles for another rear camera issue. The investigation is reviewing if Ford had recalled the vehicles in a timely fashion and if it recalled enough vehicles. Ford has issued other rear camera related recalls in recent years including recalling 47,000 U.S. 2021-2022 Bronco vehicles because the rearview camera image may still be displayed after a backing event has ended, which could distract the driver.
The company sold 1,864,464 vehicles in 2022, down about 2.2%. General Motors Co (GM.N) on Wednesday reclaimed the top spot in U.S. auto sales from Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) aided by higher inventory levels. Ford said on Thursday it sold 15,617 units of its popular F-150 Lightning electric truck in 2022 after they went on sale earlier in the year. Sales of Ford's SUVs, including models such as the Explorer and Bronco, rose nearly 5% in 2022. Truck sales fell 5.5% in the year, compared with a near 8.0% drop in 2021.
Some Ford Escapes were among the vehicles being recalled. Ford Motor Co. is recalling about 519,000 late-model sport-utility vehicles in the U.S. for possible cracked fuel injectors that could increase the risk of an under-hood fire. The auto maker said some Bronco Sport and Ford Escape SUVs spanning model years 2020 to 2023 with 1.5-liter engines could have the problem. When the engine is running, a cracked fuel injector could cause fuel or vapor to accumulate near hot surfaces and start a fire, the company said.
CNN —Ford has announced another SUV recall, this time impacting about 520,000 Ford Escape and Bronco Sport compacts in the United States. Some of these same SUVs were involved in an earlier recall that also involved a possibility of fire. Under the new recall, Ford dealers will install a software update that will detect a possibly cracked injector. The Ford Bronco Sport shares much of its engineering with the Ford Escape. It is unrelated to the larger Ford Bronco, a more truck-like SUV that is a competitor to the Jeep Wrangler.
Nov 24 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co (F.N) is recalling 634,000 sport utility vehicles (SUVs) worldwide over fire risks from possible cracked fuel injectors and will urge owners to have their cars inspected, it said on Thursday. Vehicles repaired under the earlier recall will still need the new recall fix, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. Ford said it has 54 total reports of 1.5 liter under-hood fires, including four with cracked fuel injectors. Ford said it is not telling owners to stop driving vehicles under this recall. The company projects a low failure rate for fuel injectors experiencing external leaks.

Ford says Transit Trail owners will have access to the Ford Pro network of upfitters and interior installers to create the interior space they desire. The Detroit automaker on Thursday revealed the 2023 Ford Transit Trail Van, a new lifted model of its full-size van equipped with all-wheel-drive and more durable, off-road parts for outdoor enthusiasts. Ford is touting the Transit Trail Van as a gateway into "van life," a community of travelers who fully or partially live in their vehicles. The 2023 Ford Transit Trail Van will go on sale in the spring, starting at $65,975. That's about $15,000 more than a base passenger Transit van.
DETROIT — Ford Motor is updating its popular Escape as part of a two-pronged sales strategy alongside the newer, more rugged Bronco Sport in the highly competitive compact SUV segment. The starting price for the 2023 Escape ranges from roughly $29,000 for an entry-level model to $40,000 for a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. The 2023 Escape is expected to begin arriving in dealer showrooms early next year. U.S. sales of the Escape outsold the Bronco Sport by roughly 30,000 units through the third quarter of this year. The Escape retains its powertrain options, including a traditional hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.
A couple browses a car's sticker price. For example, Mercedes-Benz purchasers paid between 2% to 4% more than the sticker price. On top of that, the average price of used cars has been steadily dropping, even if that was coming down from a very high point. In August, the average used car sold for $28,061, a 4% year-over-year decline but still up nearly 40% from December 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic. The recent decline is a function of used car sales slowing, down 9% in August from a year earlier, making it even more likely you might get a good deal on a used car lot.

The S & P 500 never really got out of control back then — and, relative to bonds, it didn't either. The Fed chairman, correctly, feared the economy was going to crash, and he would have been right. I think that's certainly how people act. I think that most participants have decided there's no hope and they are using an analogue that's 2000-2001 (dot-com bubble bursting) or even 2007 (before the financial crisis and the Great Recession). Autos have been hurt by supply chain but I think that's coming to an end.
Automakers are also investing capital in off-road models and electric vehicles. "In the transition to electric vehicles, and where do automakers put their development money, it just isn't going to convertibles." Even counting those vehicles, sales last year were down by 26% since 2015. Jim Owens, head of Ford Mustang marketing, said only about 15% of the car's sales to consumers — 72,500 units in 2019 — are convertibles. Could we see a possible convertible electric Challenger in the future?
