CNN —The Atlantic hurricane season might be quiet for now, but the same can’t be said in the Pacific, where Tropical Storm Hone is threatening to deliver a weekend blow to Hawaii. A tropical storm watch has been raised for Hawaii’s Big Island with the storm on track to pass close to the state this weekend. The storm is forecast to pass about 150 miles south of the Big Island late Saturday into Sunday morning. CNN WeatherIn addition to potentially flooding rainfall, Hone will also deliver gusty winds this weekend, especially over the Big Island. The system will weaken as it approaches Hawaii, but whatever remains of it could take a swipe at the state late next week.

CNN —Russian forces started a fire at the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in southern Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a Telegram post Sunday. Zelensky posted a video showing a large plume of smoke coming out of one of the towers on the plant’s territory. The Russian-installed communications director of the nuclear plant, Evgeniya Yashina, told state media TASS that there were no victims following the strike. 1 was damaged, and plastic steam traps caught fire following the Ukrainian drone strike,” citing the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Team was told by ZNPP of an alleged drone attack today on one of the cooling towers located at the site.

CNN —A man wanted in the 1989 rapes of two Massachusetts women is in custody following an hourlong police chase in Los Angeles Thursday. Stephen Paul Gale, 71, was arrested after leading police on the chase, US Marshals Service spokesperson Brady McCarron told CNN. Massachusetts officials charged Gale in May with four counts of aggravated rape, two counts of kidnapping and one count of armed robbery, according to the news release. “None of this has ever left our lives,” one of the victims told CNN affiliate WFXT. DETROIT — The case against a man accused of killing of a Detroit synagogue leader collapsed Friday as a judge dismissed a remaining murder charge, three weeks after a jury cleared him of a similar but separate charge. Prosecutors acknowledged that the pending murder charge probably had to be dismissed, but it still was a blow in the highly publicized case. But it couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict on a separate charge of felony murder, which in Michigan is murder committed during another crime. The judge ruled out a second trial Friday, based on a 2009 U.S. Supreme Court decision involving partial jury verdicts. Woll’s body was discovered outdoors, just east of downtown Detroit, hours after she had returned from a fall wedding.
