Jan 15 (Reuters) - Barcelona were crowned Spanish Super Cup champions after goals from Gavi, Robert Lewandowski and Pedri earned them a 3-1 win over bitter rivals Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia on Sunday. Barcelona were dominant in every aspect of the game and took advantage of three mistakes by Real Madrid to score. Lewandowski extended the lead 12 minutes later on the counter when defender Dani Carvajal was caught out of position and left Gavi alone on the left wing. Real Madrid, who had no shots on target in the first half, spent most of the second in panic mode, trying to avoid a bigger defeat. Substitute Dani Ceballos lost the ball in midfield and Gavi sprinted forward and crossed for Pedri to fire point-black into the empty net.
"We believe that Africa's growth will be a key driver of global growth over the coming decades," a senior Treasury official told reporters. But some African countries, including Zambia, have soured on Chinese lending and are looking for alternatives, experts say. Yellen has criticized Beijing - now the world's largest creditor - for not moving quickly to restructure the debt of poor countries in Africa. The topic will be a key issue when she visits Zambia, the Treasury official said. Biden in December proposed that the African Union be included in the Group of 20 major economies to give African countries a bigger seat at the table.

REUTERS/Tiksa NegeriADDIS ABABA, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Africa should not be an arena for competition between world powers, China's Foreign Minister Qin Gang said on Wednesday, opening a new headquarters for a pan-African health body at the start of five-country Africa tour. "Africa should be a big stage for the international cooperation, not an arena for major countries competition," Qin said at a news conference with AU Commission chair Moussa Faki. A trusted aide of President Xi Jinping and former ambassador to the United States, Qin was appointed foreign minister last month. Paul Nantulya, a research associate at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies, said the choice of countries reflected China's diversity of interests in Africa.

AL KHOR, Qatar, Nov 25 (Reuters) - England suffered a sobering reality check as they were outplayed for long periods by a youthful United States side in a tense 0-0 draw in their second World Cup Group B game on Friday. A 6-2 thrashing of Iran on Monday sent fans' hopes soaring but Gareth Southgate's side were fortunate not to suffer a repeat of their 1950 World Cup calamity against the Americans. England captain Harry Kane sent a late header wide that would have given England a first World Cup win over the U.S. at the third attempt but it would have been a travesty. "Wasn't the best performance for sure," Kane, who remains two behind Wayne Rooney's England record 53 goals, said. Haji Wright, the only change to Gregg Berhalter's line-up from the opening draw with Wales, headed wide and England had a huge let-off when McKennie half-volleyed over.

The Democrat Shapiro has served as Pennsylvania's attorney general since 2017 and was previously a state representative. Act 77 is the voting law that allows for no-excuse mail-in voting in Pennsylvania.
Investors pounded cloud software stocks on Wednesday on concern that interest rates will rise for longer than previously expected. Cloud stocks have been particularly sensitive to rising rates as investors prefer to own stocks with stronger current earnings that are less reliant on future growth. But for money-losing companies — and many cloud stocks are not profitable — the calculus is completely different. One gauge of cloud stocks, the WisdomTree Cloud Computing Fund, is now down 51% for 2022, compared with a 110% rise in 2020. CrowdStrike , Qualtrics and other cloud software stocks have reported more scrutiny of deals in recent months.
The previous four weeks saw two large purchases (+62 million and +47 million barrels) and two large sales (-34 million and -50 million barrels) as investor sentiment see-sawed. The mixed picture continued last recent week, with heavy buying of Brent (+29 million barrels), and smaller purchases of NYMEX and ICE WTI (+6 million) and U.S. gasoline (+6 million). But that was partly offset by small sales of U.S. diesel (-4 million) and European gas oil (-2 million). But uncertainty is high and confidence is low, with a net position of just 503 million barrels (33rd percentile for all weeks since 2013). While it's unclear if there will be a severe recession, there is one outcome that investors can bank on, Parker wrote: stagflation. The market is implying a nearly 100% chance of weak economic growth paired with rampant inflation, which is a nightmarish economic scenario. UBSHowever, Parker wrote that the market selloff still has room to go as tighter financial conditions hurt estimates for earnings and economic growth. Besides interest rates, economic activity is the biggest driver of stocks right now, Parker wrote. More broadly, sectors for quality growth include consumer discretionary, healthcare, and technology, Parker wrote.

China's top influencer Li Jiaqi's livestream was cut short after he showed off a tank-shaped cake. The incident took place on June 3, a day before the anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen massacre. He was referring to Alibaba's ecommerce platform and the Chinese version of TikTok, respectively. The ecommerce giant has already lost another top livestreamer, Viya, whose accounts went offline after a tax evasion scandal last year. Viya, who was known for hosting a popular shopping stream on the e-commerce platform Taobao, is still missing in action.
Researchers focused on 10 categories related to voting, including registration, inconvenience, early voting, polling hours and absentee voting. The state also stopped using special voting deputies, officials whose tasks had sometimes included conducting voter registration drives, according to the study. To assess the voting laws passed after the 2020 election, this year’s Cost of Voting Index study added new categories and scoring. While the political debate surrounding new election laws has centered on ballots and the voting process, the Cost of Voting Index also gives heavy weight to the ease of voter registration. States rank higher in the index if they allow voter registration drives, provide automatic voter registration, offer same-day registration and maintain longer periods in which to register.
