The number of Republican women running for the House this cycle dropped about 36% from 2022, while the number running for Senate dropped by about 45%, according to data from the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers. “With fewer competitive seats up for grabs, fewer candidates in both parties are running overall, but there is still very strong interest and enthusiasm from Republican women recruits,” Danielle Barrow, executive director of Winning for Women, which works to elect GOP women, said in a statement. That began to change after the 2018 midterms – the huge success enjoyed by Democratic women that year inspired more Republican women to run in 2020. Another possible reason why there may be fewer women running is what Dittmar calls toxicity. CNN —Members of the grand jury in Arizona that indicted 18 allies of Donald Trump earlier this year for their alleged roles in attempting to overturn the 2020 election had also expressed interest in charging the former president, according to a new court filing. The interest was strong enough that it prompted the state’s lead prosecutor to request that the grand jury not indict the former president and give a PowerPoint presentation to explain his reasoning. Prosecutors cited two primary reasons for why the grand jury should not charge Trump: a lack of evidence and a US Justice Department policy they believe would hamper charges against a former president. The policy cited by prosecutors deals with DOJ guidelines limiting how the federal government can prosecute individuals already charged with similar crimes at the state level. But people didn’t always know there was water on the moon, though scientists theorized about its existence for hundreds of years. “I think it has lots of potential, this new finding that we can extract molecular water directly from lunar soils,” Qian said. CNN —A group of scientists has devised a plan to safeguard Earth’s species in a cryogenic biorepository on the moon. In order to reach the required temperatures on earth, a supply of liquid nitrogen, electricity and human staff are required. To reduce this risk, Hagedorn and the team thought about how cryopreservation could be achieved passively, which is impossible on Earth, and alighted on the moon. “We aren’t saying what if the Earth fails – if the Earth is biologically destroyed this biorepository won’t matter,” Hagedorn said in the statement. Sally Keith, a senior lecturer in Marine Biology at Lancaster University, who was not involved in the research, had similar concerns.
