Nairobi, Kenya CNN —When King Charles III touched down for his four-day state visit in Kenya, it seemed inevitable the new monarch would have to grapple with Britain’s legacy of colonialism. But it was also that same year that Mau Mau freedom fighters – originating from the country’s largest ethnic Kikuyu tribe – rebelled against British colonialists. Mau Mau rebels held in a prison camp in Kenya in 1952. The King, accompanied by President William Ruto, receives a guided tour of a new museum dedicated to Kenya's history on Tuesday. The wounds and trauma inflicted during that dark period are still prevalent today, according to Evelyn Wanjugu Kimathi, the daughter of one of the leaders of the Mau Mau uprising, Dedan Kimathi.

Interest rates on traditionally "safer" investments like Treasury bonds are high. Economist Thomas Hogan of the American Institute for Economic Research recently pointed out this upside to the interest rates and how it is helping Americans. "Now, interest rates on US Treasury bonds are at the highest in more than a decade, giving savers a safe, stable place to store their money." If long-term interest rates remain elevated because of higher term premiums, there may be less need to raise the fed funds rate. However, to the extent that strength in the economy is behind the increase in long-term interest rates, the FOMC may need to do more."

Oct 12 (Reuters) - Liverpool's new upper tier in the Anfield Road stand will remain closed until the end of the year, the Premier League club said on Thursday, as a further delay of the expansion project sees fans' tickets cancelled for the Oct. 21 game against Everton. The new tier, which will increase Anfield's capacity by 7,000 seats to more than 61,000, was initially expected to be ready for the 2023-24 season. That includes the visit of local rivals Everton for which Liverpool had already sold tickets, planning on having some of the upper tier open for the Merseyside derby. "Ultimately we won't be in a position to be able to provide seats for those fans who have purchased those tickets in the upper tier," Hogan said. "Our team has identified who those supporters are and they will be reaching out directly to those supporters next week."

Its proposed rules, issued Friday, would let car dealers offer the EV tax break to consumers at the point of sale — regardless of their federal tax liability — starting Jan. 1, 2024. If the Treasury proposal is codified, it would expand the pool of consumers — especially lower earners, who generally have smaller tax liabilities — eligible for the full value of the EV tax credit. Consumers will get that point-of-sale discount by transferring their tax credit — the new clean vehicle credit ($7,500) or the used clean vehicle credit ($4,000) — to a car dealer. For one, the Treasury proposal is subject to a 60-day public comment period and may change in its final version, though experts don't expect any substantial revisions. It's also important to note that car dealers won't analyze consumers' income to determine if they qualify for an EV credit, according to the Treasury proposal.

"At the end of the day, tying that to what it means for the S & P 500 in the fourth quarter, that's a much more difficult exercise." Indeed, both the Dow and the S & P 500 moved solidly into positive territory Monday afternoon, and the tech-focused Nasdaq was higher as well. Not surprisingly, energy stocks on the S & P 500 jumped 3.7%, while industrials and discretionary stocks also posted solid gains. Finally, while the market often has knee-jerk reactions to geopolitical events, they rarely last unless there are other complicating factors. Many investors expect that could be the capitulation event equities need to bottom out before rebounding. "If you get down to five and a quarter all hell's gonna break loose," Rob Ginsberg, managing director at Wolfe Research. The yield on the 10-year Treasury has spiked sharply to about 4.8% this week, about 1 whole percentage point above where it was in mid-July at around 3.7%.
