The Biden administration requested more than $100 billion Friday for security and humanitarian support for Ukraine and Israel, as well as assistance to civilians in Gaza, saying the U.S. needs to maintain leadership as dual conflicts unfold amid the so-called pacing threat with China.
The request includes about $61 billion for Ukraine and $14 billion for Israel for security needs, and about $9 billion for humanitarian assistance to both conflicts.
It also includes about $2 billion for security assistance in the Indo-Pacific.
President Biden's request now goes to Congress, where obstacles include political dysfunction and a lack of a House speaker.
