While Rent The Runway closed its retail stores due to the pandemic, it still has a network of drop-off locations in major cities, including New York. More than 50% of clothing hanging up in someone's closet is only worn a handful of times before being discarded, according to Rent the Runway CEO Jennifer Hyman. That's why she, along with co-founder Jenny Fleiss, started the fashion rental and subscription business Rent the Runway in 2009 – a service the company has coined a "closet in the cloud." Customers can rent items for as long as they'd like and have the option to purchase any pieces they love. In its first decade of existence, Rent the Runway says it reached more than 11 million members.

CNN —Cosmetics company L’Oréal, along with multiple other parties, is being sued over claims that its chemical hair straightening products put women at an increased risk of uterine cancer. Debrosse Zimmermann told CNN on Monday that the lawsuit marks a “watershed moment” for women of color who have used chemical hair-straightening products, such as relaxers. In the lawsuit, she claims to have no family history of cancer or uterine cancer. Black women tend to use these chemical hair-straightening products more frequently than White women, the researchers noted. “Black hair has been and always will be beautiful, but Black women have been told they have to use these products to meet society’s standards.

LONDON—Workers evacuated a natural-gas plant in Norway and European gas prices spiked after what local officials said was a hoax bomb threat. By Thursday afternoon, workers were back at the plant restoring normal operations, and gas prices had receded. The scare, though, punctuated a sense of high alert over energy infrastructure across Europe, and in Norway in particular. The country is a major gas producer and has become an even more important source of gas to the continent after Russia by and large shut off flows to Europe.
