President Biden’s re-election campaign on Monday released a searing campaign ad blaming former President Donald J. Trump for the near-death of a Texas woman who suffered infections after she was denied an abortion following a miscarriage. The ad featuring Ms. Zurawski and her husband is part of a $30 million ad campaign and will appear on broadcast and cable stations in battleground states. Ms. Zurawski is suing the State of Texas after she was denied an abortion when her water broke at 18 weeks. According to the Center for Reproductive Rights, which argued the case for Roe before the Supreme Court, 21 more women have joined as plaintiffs in that lawsuit. Jamie Dimon, one of the world’s most influential business leaders, is worried. The PE boom: The shrinking public market has private equity to blame — funds that pool money from investors to acquire or invest in companies. When a PE fund buys a public company, it takes that company private. The number of private companies in the US backed by PE firms has grown from 1,900 to 11,200 over the last two decades, according to JPMorgan data. Dimon’s company, of course, makes a huge amount of money from taking companies public, so he’s not exactly an impartial observer.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump said Monday that abortion rights should be left to the states, offering his clearest stance yet on one of the most delicate and contentious issues in American politics. In this case, the law of the state,” Trump said in a video posted to his Truth Social account. Trump told reporters last week that he would be making a “statement” on abortion when pressed about Florida’s six-week abortion ban, which is set to become law after a recent state Supreme Court ruling. That includes Trump’s home state of Florida, where a six-week abortion ban will take effect in a matter of weeks. Trump in his statement Monday acknowledged that voters will ultimately decide the fate of abortion access in some states.

CNN —Researchers looking for clues about why some types of cancer are on the rise in younger adults say they’ve found an interesting lead: a connection to accelerated biological aging. What faster aging could tell us about cancer riskAfter adjusting the data for factors they thought might bias their results, the researchers found that accelerated aging was associated with increased risk for cancer. “There are medications that also look like they can slow down accelerated aging,” said Blaes, who is testing two of them in cancer survivors. Cancer survivors often show greater biological aging, perhaps because of the after effects of therapies like chemotherapy and radiation. It’s not quite prime time, where we would go out and prescribe those medications for people, but this is really, really important work,” Blaes said.

Stocks rallied Friday after the latest jobs report came in piping hot. The Dow rose 307 points, or 0.8%, after climbing more than 400 points at the day's highs. Still, all three major indexes ended the week lower, starting the second quarter of the year on a sour note. While the latest jobs report supports the idea that the US economy is holding strong against interest rates at a 23-year high and could avoid a recession, it also puts into question when the Federal Reserve will begin its long-awaited rate cuts. The US economy added 303,000 jobs last month, according to data released Friday by the Labor Department.

To be sure, late payments don't always signal financial troubles. Creditsafe spokesperson Ragini Bhalla said payment data is only one factor the firm considers when assessing a company's financial health. Though the data "doesn't represent a company's total trading behavior, analysis has proven that it is hugely predictive of a company's financial health and creditworthiness," Bhalla said. "When the number of late payments increases like this, it's often indicative of financial challenges and poor cash flow forecasting," Creditsafe said. While Saks often made late payments last year, its on-time payments have dropped significantly since October 2023, the firm said.
