We have an embarrassment of riches when we look at TJX Companies and Costco in terms of just flat-out value — and a dicey one, admittedly, in Best Buy , which I think has turned an important corner. Costco Research firm Redburn downgraded Costco this week, which made me want to downgrade Redburn. But Costco stock has never been cheap. CNN —Nearly half of all renter households in the US were cost-burdened in 2023, meaning they paid more than 30% of their income towards housing costs, according to new government data. “Housing costs rose between 2022 and 2023 for both homeowners and renters,” Molly Ross, a survey statistician at the Census Bureau, said in a statement. Households that spend more than 30% of their income on rent, mortgage payments or other housing costs are considered “cost-burdened” by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. In 2023, 56.2% of Black or African American households spent more than 30% of their income on housing costs, compared to 49.7% of the total population. About 2.5 million, or 30.6%, of Black households were considered “severely cost-burdened,” meaning they spent more than 50% of their income on housing costs in 2023.

With 95% of eligible flight attendants voting, 87% were in favor of the new deal, the union said. Flight attendants have also urged an end to the industry practice of not compensating crews for the time spent during boarding and waiting at the airport before and between flights. “Among the many improvements, the contract includes a new sit rig for compensation for long sits between flights, and American Airlines Flight Attendants become the first unionized workgroup to lock in pay for boarding,” APFA National President Julie Hedrick said. President Joe Biden hinted Tuesday that Kyiv might be about to get what it wants after months of resistance from the White House. Trump was asked twice whether or not he wants Ukraine to win the war, but on both occasions he skirted the question. His response may heighten concerns in Kyiv that a Trump administration would remove U.S. support and seek an end to the war on terms favorable to Russia.

TOKYO — U.S. opponents of a Japanese steelmaker’s $14.9 billion bid for U.S. Steel cite concerns about national security and a reluctance to relinquish a storied American company.
