The United States had been expected to extend a waiver granted to the South Korean chipmakers on a requirement for licenses to bring US chip equipment into China. The United States has already notified Samsung and SK Hynix of the decision, indicating that it is in effect, Choi said. Samsung and SK Hynix, the world’s largest and second-largest memory chipmakers, have invested billions of dollars in their chip production facilities in China and welcomed the move. SK Hynix said: “We welcome the US government’s decision to extend a waiver with regard to the export control regulations. The companies together controlled nearly 70% of the global DRAM market and 50% of the NAND flash market as of end-June, data from TrendForce showed.

Softbank also owns 65% of the GreenBox venture, which launched with $100 million in investment by the two companies. They say it's a $500 billion market, and an example of the kind of change AI can bring to the economy at large. But not as many investors know about Softbank's "other" big AI investment, Wilmington, Mass.-based software and robotics maker Symbotic , which Walmart has taken a big stake in itself. Symbotic teamed up with Softbank to build GreenBox in order to preserve its own capital, Cohen told analysts. The GreenBox market for smaller companies shapes up as another $500 billion of possible demand, Gartner's Klappich said.

With the stock market deeply oversold this week, we put cash to work by picking stocks across a range of sectors including energy, technology and materials. With the market oversold, per the S & P 500 Short Range Oscillator , our investment discipline called for us to search for any dislocations within the portfolio. Tech stocks remained under pressure Tuesday afternoon, giving us an opportunity to buy 7 shares of Broadcom and lower our cost basis. But stocks returned to the red Thursday, and the market remained firmly in oversold territory. However, the market reversed course in midday trading, with all three major U.S. stock benchmarks trading sharply higher.

"The fourth quarter should see significant growth compared to the third quarter," it added, without elaborating. Foxconn, formally called Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, said revenue last month reached T$660.7 billion ($20.46 billion), down 19.7% year-on-year but soaring 60.1% from August. Revenue in its smart consumer electronics products, including smartphones, saw strong growth month-on-month "due to new product launches in September", Foxconn said. Foxconn is the world's biggest iPhone assembler, but has been trying to diversify into electric vehicles. It added that September year-on-year revenue for cloud and networking products, which includes servers, declined due to "conservative customer pull-in".

REUTERS/Gonzalo Fuentes/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Oct 5 (Reuters) - A former executive at Samsung Electronics' venture capital arm who proposed that mobile app developer Branch Metrics' software offering be expanded in Samsung smartphones faced pushback due to pressure from Google, he said on Thursday in a landmark antitrust trial against the Alphabet (GOOGL.O) unit. Patrick Chang, who worked at Samsung Next to invest in innovative companies, had urged the parent company (005930.KS) to expand the offerings of Branch, which can search within apps, to its Android smartphones. Chang testified that Samsung also faced pushback from wireless carries, like AT&T, which sell Android phones. In its questioning, the Justice Department showed an August 2020 email by Samsung executive David Eun, who complained that "Google is clearly buying its way to squelch competitors." Chang testified during the fourth week of a more than two-month trial in which the U.S. Justice Department is seeking to show that Google abused its monopoly of search and some search advertising.

STOCKHOLM (AP) — The Nobel Prize in literature will be announced Thursday, with the new laureate, or laureates, joining an illustrious list of past winners that ranges from Toni Morrison to Ernest Hemingway and Jean-Paul Sartre — who turned down the prize in 1964. Ernaux was just the 17th woman among the 119 Nobel literature laureates. The literature prize has long faced criticism that it is too focused on European and North American writers, as well as too male-dominated. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded Friday and the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences ends the awards season on Monday. The Nobel Prizes carry a cash award of 11 million Swedish kronor ($1 million) from a bequest left by the prize’s creator, Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel.

And the company predicts the strategy will work, with online holiday sales climbing almost 5% above last year. Retailers are poised to offer up to 35% off listed prices this holiday season, with the deepest discounts applied to toys, electronics and apparel, Adobe said in its annual holiday forecast. Buy Now, Pay Later is expected to drive a record $17 billion in online spending this holiday season, up 17% from 2022, Adobe said. Americans are also doing more and more holiday shopping (and shopping in general) on smartphones and tablets. That means Adobe’s 2023 holiday shopping forecast for solid sales growth would signal a genuine increase in demand from consumers.

Only the fifth woman to win a Nobel physics prize, French-born L'Huillier works at Lund University in Sweden, while Agostini, who was also born in France, is a emeritus professor at Ohio State University in the United States. Agostini and Krausz then demonstrated how this could be used to create shorter light pulses than previously possible. These experiments all showed that attosecond pulses could be observed and measured, and could be used in new experiments. While the award for peace can take the limelight, the physics prize has also often taken centre stage with winners such as Albert Einstein and awards for science that has fundamentally changed how we see the world. Announced on consecutive weekdays in early October, the physics prize announcement will be followed by ones for chemistry, literature, peace and economics, the latter a later addition to the original line-up.

REUTERS/Kamil Krzaczynski/File Photo(Reuters) -Walmart on Saturday said that it will streamline job titles across its corporate staff, to ensure that it remains competitive. While some staff will receive a new job title, their roles, responsibilities, type of work and base pay will not change, the retailer said. Corporate employees at Walmart and Sam’s Club, its warehouse chain, will be reclassified into fewer groups of possible titles and in some cases, pay changes will go into effect, starting in November. About 4% of the staff will see a decrease in stock-option awards to ensure compensation is aligned across geographies, Walmart said.
